Fire on Brixton road

Seriously though, does anyone know if anyone was hurt?

As far as I know, no. The house that caught fire is a shop and storage, no personal flats, and both the early BBC news story and a police bod I asked reported no casualties. Mind you, that BBC article was written a bit before the end - afterwards the fire went to the second and third floors, right up to the roof.

Guy who lives above has more damage than us - a scorched wall. But generally we were lucky it didn't spread.

However, my online uni library service is fucking up (appears to be specifically in my case) and in a fit of frustration I kicked the table, somehow managed to bang my laptop into my mouth and now I'm quite bruised. :(

This made me LOL. I know it shouldn't have :o

me too. so much so i even read it out to meems...

tell crispy i'm sorry i wasnt making a lot of sense when i saw him last night!

Glad to know all's well.

Went past on the bus today. The roof of the building is blown out entirely. Very dramatic sight. Sudden chitter-chatter on the bus as we passed, people giving their version of events.

Ah yes, it takes a crisis to bring a community together.

It really does. Admittedly we sort of stood out a bit with Crispy in his dressing gown, but the amount of fellow watchers who we struck up random conversations with was quite amazing. The last time I spoke to someone random on the streets of Brixton was when I asked if a girl was OK after she had been racially abused - before that I can't remember the last time. More striking was the random offers of coming into stranger's houses for cups of tea. We still only got our emergency coffee from Subway on credit though! :D

glad you're back indoors crispy and AS....maybe the agency will redecorate your flat for you or something ;)

I don't really think it warrants that. I just want them to note what's happened so we don't get it taken off our deposit when we leave.

Oh, and treebog and poostreak -

I walked down electric avenue and into the tube station at midnight in my dressing gown once :o (there had been an alarm going off for 3 nights solid). weirdly noone i walked passed seemed to notice :)

Brixton innit.

I've seen people apparently ignore the strangest things in Brixton, things that would get in to the local press elsewhere.
