Fire on Brixton road

That sounds hopeful, fingers crossed x

edit: did you take your phone with you, btw?

No  Police took our names and mobile numbers, then we realised we didn't have our phones with us! So we found another (rather useless) policeman to give him tastebud's no. as our contact one, though not sure how much use that will be! We're near enough at the moment though to keep popping back.

And hello Ciaranarchy! Shame we're not "meeting" under better conditions really! :D

Ah, good stuff Crispy.

Uhh, where is the drive physically situated right now? (if you don't mind me asking, not really my business etc etc)

Ah, that explains it!

I guess you'll be buying yourself a USB key and backing up all your work to that?

^ a seriously Good Idea ^
There are only two assignments which aren't on the major backup, one is only a 2000 word one and the paper copy is being marked, so I could always type that out again. Just this one I'm a bit more worried about - writing 5000 words in week when you're at work/uni isn't the easiest task!

*will not worry about things I do not know yet* :D

Jonti: Drive's right here with me. It's the first thing I grabbed :)

Ed: Thanks for the offer, but I think we have it covered.

Just been for a walk and I think it's all going to be blocked off for a while. The whole of central Brixton is cordoned off from Superdrug - Mcdonalds on Brixton Road and the top half of the market down to Electric Lane.

The building's still smoking away and there's still a lot of firemen about.

The thing that pissed me off is some people were being really arsey with the PCSOs for the road being blocked off:mad:

glad crispy and AS are ok - hope no one else is hurt. hope you feel ok story.

scary stuff :(

Feeling much calmer now.

Thank you Tank Girl.

Feeling a bit sheepish about my reaction now.... Bloody limbic brain

Just so relieved that people are safe.

bloody hell

Just as well I'm coming down next weekend then, innit? :p (hopes that CriSparra towers is all fine and stuff)

glad to hear AS and crispy are both safe and sound - hope all your stuff makes it through ok too :)

So what is happening now???

The tube has reopened but at 7.30 the high street was still closed off . I didn't know about this untill I got back from work and when I saw where the fire had been I was really worried that it was Crispy and AS' place .

I'm glad to hear your both ok and there is another offer of somewhere to stay here as well although it looks like you have so many offers you could start getting bids for who will look after you both best :D

they're all safe n sound & will be tucked up in choc's bed later.
(still in pyjamas though it has to be said... along with donated clothes from me to go with that. actually agent sparrow said she felt even more like a refugee whan she wore my coat to go out this evening. :D fair point though i'm sure).

i also went out with them in my pjs today... entirely unnecessary since i have a large wardobe full of clothes, but i wanted to be part of the gang.

I thought there'd be a thread on here, I was driving a transit cming up to St Matthews church when i said 'hang about something's happened here' we pulled up to the lights at coldharbour lane junction and I immediately thought 'shit that looks like sparrow and crispy's':( Glad other people thought of you to and your cool and stuff . Fingers crossed for your posessions.

It was pretty chaotic from what I saw sat in the middle of it gridlocked down coldharbour lane with the smoke fumes bellowing through the window. You could really smell it!!

Wonder how it started? :confused::hmm:

Yep, my flat's down Coldharbour Lane & yet I could smell the smoke when I was in bed this morning! Was too hungover to get up to see what was going on though, initially.
When I first saw those two at my door in dressing gowns and the whole street full of smoke... I really thought armageddon was coming. That we only had a few hours left on planet earth & AS & C were here to tell me the news/hangout with me, in our last few hours - again v hungover head on.

the police were fucking useless arseholes too. We went up to them today and AS said that she lived next door and the copper replied in an almost sarcastic voice 'do you, that's nice for you'. I told him it wasn't actually funny and that we needed to leave a contact number with him.

Apparently affected residents can stay in the recreation centre tonight if they need to...

God, that's bloody awful.:(

:hmm::hmm: that just doesn't sound very comfortable...

What a wanker to say that

What's teh current status? I quite fancy going for a coffee today, is everything back to normal?

We're home. It smells a bit, and there's no major damage. A little bit of water got in, and the firemen clomped up and down the stairs and the doorbell won't stop ringing (unplugged it), but otherwise everything's fine. Thanks again for all the kind offers :)

The response on the ground did seem strangely casual, chaotic, and yes, careless about local people.

Another clear example: traffic on Atlantic Road was prevented leaving it by turning right onto Brixton Road even while traffic was still entering that section of Atlantic road from the Coldharbour Lane crossroads. Beats me why they didn't stop entering that section of street first, wait for the backlog to clear, then tape off the exit to Brixton Road.

As it was, the trapped cars were performing unco-ordinated U-turns in the crowded and narrow Atlantic Road. I saw a pedestrian knocked to the ground by a reversing vehicle; people were calling to a CSO to draw his attention to the general chaos and the particular accident. He glanced around, then simply ignored the guy lying on the ground half under a car, and just carried on chatting.

And my two priorities - my assignment and my photos, are both fine. Yippee! There's a crack in the wall now but as we rent that's not too much of a problem for us. Not sure if the agency knows yet, so perhaps time to tidy up a little in case they come round tomorrow to inspect. :o There's enough damage to warrant me not going in to this cringworthy team building day we've got tomorrow, so I guess that's some sort of silver lining. :D

That was the strange thing though - we got told to speak to the people at the rec when asking when we were likely to be allowed access again. We went to the room they were meant to all be in, which was completely empty, save some chairs and a first aid kit. So not sure if anyone did stay there (or whether anyone went to try and find people and likewise found the empty room).

Which did add a little to the Armageddon theme! :D

What:eek: Did this idiot eventually take notice. If not, that has to be grounds for a complaint to the borough commander. It does seem that although many of the CSO's are great, there are a significant minority who are a useless waste of space.

My bus kicked me off outside the town hall and I had to walk all the way to Clapham to get to work on Brixton Road  it was terrible :(
Seriously though, does anyone know if anyone was hurt?

Was just thinking about you and came here to see if you managed to get back in! Great news!
