Fire in Oxford Street

Looks even less impressive when resized, but there were huge plumes of smoke billowing out - this is as close as I could get.
My Good Lady Wife has some photos on her phone which show the flames a bit better. I'll upload them this weekend.

An violent intruder in the office on Wednesday.
A fire while shopping on Thursday.
I wonder what Friday will bring. ;)

Yes... well I'm hoping for a drama-free day today! :D

Tbh now when thinking about the coppers threatening arrest I'm more angry that the shop staff didn't tell us to vacate the building earlier. The alarm was going for a good 5 or so mins & there wasn't any evidence of fire down in the basement... I thought maybe someone had shop-lifted something or there was a security breach of some sort. Perhaps if we were told to leave earlier, I wouldn't have tried on shoes... perhaps I could have avoided running underneath exploding windows & raining glass!  That was the scariest part...

I'm feeling OK today though. :)

That's the thing isn't it - if you were in your own building and the fire alarm went off, you'd probably evacuate quickly. Because it's a shop you are unfamiliar with and we're innundated with bells and rings these days, you've no idea what it's ringing for.

Alarms in shops / public buildings really should have a vocal component - ie "Please evacuate the building".

i was in oxford st at that time and the smoke was massive. i thought terrorists might have targeted the new Primark to get at British women's dress code

:)
