Fingernails

I tend to keep my fingernails about level with the end of my finger. Same shape as well but that's not particularly intentional. Most of the time they're bare but nailfinity (max factor) doesn't chip within 2 hours so I sometimes use that in bright red. Basically if I paint my toenails I might paint my fingernails. My toenails are strong and the nail varnish doesn't chip so that tends to stay until it's pretty much grown out.

Fingernails are pretty
Fingernails are good
Seems that all they ever wanted was a marking

Had to be done :)

[does that make this a call out thread? :hmm:]

Old wive's tale I think - I think my granny used to say it too.

Ah, fair enough.

Did you know that although gelatine is 99% protein if it's your only source of protein you end up protein deficient no matter how much you eat? No tryptophan you see. Or is it methionine? Anyway, wash it down with a boiled egg and you'll be fine. Oeufs-en-gelee, the perfect food.

I got into the habit of cutting my nails short when I started Piano lessons at secondary school - as instructed my my Piano teacher...
Long nails have never suited me anyway - I attempt to grow them, and then remember they look terrible on me.

I used to grow my nails in an effort to make my short sausagey fingers look elegant. The only time this ever worked was when I had those footballers wife extensions with a french manicure. At the time they were higly desirable and I neither knew nor cared what damge they may have been doing to my natural nails. Luckily they didn't do too much damage.
Now I give up on long nails and I much prefer them short and bright. Not much longer than my fingers and usually red or purpley/pink
I do have issues with my cuticles which may well be a hangover from having them cut for those extensions. I don't want to cut them but they do tend to grow quite big.
If I'm using a balm on my skin and I've got some left on my hands I'll rub it into my cuticles but I don't do anything else. Don't pay them any more attention than that.

i have long nails and have them painted a lot. im a bit of a snob with nail varnish though, i only use Nails Inc or Opi. at the mo i have nails inc victoria (dark purpley-red) on my fingers and one of the reds on my toes but cant remember the names. my finger on has been on nearly two weeks and is now starting to look scabby

*wanders off to get nail varnish remover and a new colour*

I like the Victoria shade, it's the only darker shade I do actually like. I usually wear Tate or Picadilly and I like Nails Inc varnishes as they do last on me for more than a few days. I have one OPI varnish but it's a red/brown colour with more brown than I usually go for, it's pretty good though.

oooh, what are they like? i got a 'selection box' type thingy one christmas with 10 in and am still going through those

That's interesting, I find both Nails Inc and Opi really shit on my nails. Wonder whether it's an individual nails thing! Opi is peeling off my nails within hours! And it's expensive too.

I use Boots #7 and they're brilliant, will stay on my nails for over a week and still look good.

these are my webcam nails. having good nails is win.

fuckin' right

btw folks if you wanna make wide nails look thinner leave a mm or two's space at either side when you are varnishing.

I'd like to have mid-length nails but they break all the time, or more accurately, tear. I think I'm going to have to get some of that strengthening nail polish stuff. I have a manicure/pedicure every month or so in the summer and less regularly in the winter but I'm rubbish with nail polish. It's literally chipped or wrinkled by the time I leave the salon.

this is me ^^^ I find the nail strengening polish stuff to be a complete waste of time as it's soooo satisfying after a couple of days, to peel the polish off as it comes off in one piece :o

must be an individual nail thing!

Looked up this thread because I was on the verge of re-creating it. I don't bite my nails but I do cut them very short (as each sore fingertap on my keyboard reminds me) why do I do this to myself? :(

Anyone know how long your nails can get to before they go weird in a chinese emperor type way?? My longest nail atm is over 15mm and I want to leave it to see how long it gets!
Can't remember the last time I cut my fingernails tbh. They get filed when they break or snag but they tend to be 4/5 mm long most of the time. They seem to get dirty easily when they're short

Fairly crap, after a lifetime of calcium-rich food avoidance (and gelatine). Plus I have bitten them for so long my teeth have worn down, but I've never bitten them right down to the quicks. Can't bear 'em long, though - give me the creeps.
