I'm not counting that; it's a collection of singles sides. Elvis Presley for RCA Victor was his first album.

*senses a losing argument*

True. Oh well.

I'm guessing The Queen is Dead will carry little weight at Pilchard Towers...

well mothership is the best on the poll, though lionrock nearly takes it.

but as every fule kno the best album ever is either blackgrape by blackgrape, or er i'll get back to you

Personally I think it's rather fascist to reduce a 'best album' poll to a few personal choices.

If I had to absolutely choose one album, for me it would be narrowed down to either the God Machine's first, or Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation.

wow.

i popped into this thread thinking 'not a hope in hell', and, okay, peggy suicide isn't in there but two and a half of the top five are!

it's got to be other, for PS, by his holiness Julian Cope, bu it is really closely follwed by Neu!, Londons Calling, and then This Nations Saving Grace, rathr than HEH, but still...mighty fine choices!

That's a pretty good call for the top twenty as it goes.

I agree. Hole's Live Through This is actully a pretty amazing album. I still stick it on regularly. I am actully on my second copy after one got "used" a bit to much. It would definatly be in the top20 if people could get over the obsession with so called "classic" albums (ehem beatles) and just listen to the music and rate it.

I think for me though, the best album ever recorded is Loveless by My Bloody Valentine. I try and turn ever person I meet on to MBV. Needless to say this doesnt work as you cant be told MBV are great. You need to work it out your self. Saying that. I urge everyone to go forth and obtain Loveless, sit back and let your mind be blown.

To this day. I rate all music on how it compares to Loveless.

Of course non of it is as good.

Speaking of which. I obtained an amazing recording of Patti Smith reading one of her stories while Kevin Shields improvises his AMAZING guitar in the background. It was recorded earlier this year and is a prime example of arty stuff that works. I would be happy to share this with fellow MBV fans via slsk should any of you want it. (If its any use hes plays 1 hour of non stop glide guitar(Its very good))

5 things: first, it's not a best album poll; it's a finest album poll. Second, there is a option to add your own personal favourites (last option). Third, vbulletin doesn't allow enough poll options to include everyone's personal choices. Forth, it's my poll, not yours; yours would look different. And finally, my taste is the best there could possibly be, therefore my choices are ideal. :p

To this I would add that MBV's Loveless is the finest album ever recorded. :)

Either The Smiths-The Smiths or Meat is Murder for me.

On that list either Ogdens Nut Goneflake or Parliament make my funk the P-Funk.

i think the clash london calling is the only one of those albums that i have listend too all the way through.

Finest album? i will go with guns n roses appitie for destruction.

The correct answer is Smile by Brian Wilson, although marks will be awarded for A Love Supreme, The Black Saint and The Sinner Lady or Kind of Blue. With correct justification a mark may be given for Unit Structures.

The Finest Album Ever Recorded Was...

... most certainly none of the above.

American Beauty, Stone Roses, Blood On The Tracks, Screamadelica, The White Album, Forever Changes, OK Computer, In Utero, Exile On Main Street, Leftism, Pink Moon, Appetite For Destruction, Astral Weeks... all are much finer works than the above.

Some of those are very, very wrong. The most wrong are The White Album, Astral Weeks, and In Utero.

Screamadelica was good at the time, but didn't even survive the 90s, never mind the Test of Time.

Forever Changes, however, may be entered into the acceptable alternatives to the poll list.

My Bloody Valentine are a great example of either getting it or not getting it. To the lay person it may sound like a load of drony noise but to us Shields afficianados know different.

However he doesn't get my vote. That honour goes to the Wu-Tang Clan's "Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)", 9 men coming from nowhere in perfect unison to do something unique.

Finally, a better way to find U75's favourite album would be a points system, where everyone has a top 5, the top album getting 5 points, second getting 4, etc.

Two great choices but I'll go for either The Temptations - Puzzle People or Marvin Gaye - What's Going On

Whenever someone dislikes an album people love dearly, there's always this talk of "not getting it".

Well, guess what?

I totally get it. I just don't like it very much.

I actually think it's alright, but no more than that. Quite ordinary. You feel free to toss yourself senseless over your sacred cow all you like, but it's still amongst the most overrated albums ever in my mind.

Brian Wilson is one of the most overrated musicians ever btw.

And another one. The first time I heard Smile, I was gobsmacked. Not that it was any good, but that anything so unutterably ordinary could be getting such blowjob reviews from almost everyone on the planet.

I don't mind some of what Wilson's done over the years, but if this is his best ever, I'm a penguin.
