Genuinely friendly advice – if you find yourself having to fare dodge, stand or sit by the doors and look out for inspectors at each stop. If you see them, get out. Too late now, I know.
Edit: A thought that might be worth a go. Phone them up and explain your circumstances and offer to pay the £25 off over a longer period, say £5 per week or even £5 per month if you're really strapped. They may well go for it as this is the kind of arrangement that courts will make for those on benefits to pay off debts. What they won't do is let you off just because you're skint (most people who dodge the buses are pretty skint!), but as long as you've agreed to pay, they ought to be flexible. I'd be surprised if they aren't.
