Films That Make Men Get A Little Bit Of Grit In Their Eyes

Ah no.. in answer to you question about it...your mention of not watching a film because an appreciated lady had gone to Poland has a filmic quality about it I think...
Ah, OK. Yeah, it'd be gloomy and all. Might be good.

Oh, it would *have* to be gloomy. That goes without saying.

Possibly involving lots of long meaningful stares across a kitchen table with a faded plastic tablecloth, or the two protagonists watching the film in different but equally seedy housing to the sound of a leaky pipe...

No, just any logical follow-up thereto.
Okay, I'll spell it out for you, and stop ducking the issue donna, it's beneath you

Those were references to films, that didn't use titles, because according to you you don't need to use titles to reference a film. I wanted to test your theory, so gave you two references. You didn't get the films, because you didn't understand my references. Therefore, your theory is full of holes.

All right, since you insist. The difference is that your references were deliberately ambiguous whereas mine could not possibly have confused the reader since it cold not have been more clear which film was referred to.

All right?

In other words, so far from doing what I was doing, you did the opposite, and deliberately.

But you said films could be referenced 'By any number of means'

I used one, and you didn't get it. It's quite simple. You're wrong.

At a push, I was a little tremly lipped when B.O.B. dies in Walt Disney's Black Hole (which I think is an massively underrated sci-fi film, with some seriously fucked up imagery of satan/man-machine merging and all kinds of weird ass shit, not to mention one of the coolest ship models ever (the Cygnus)

Really? Because a deliberately obscure reference can't be instantly recognised, that means an instantly recognisable reference is no good?

Don't be fucking stupid.

What you're doing now is trolling, which is disrupting a thread in order to make a specious and purely provocative point. Pack it in. It's boring and stupid.

Gosh donna, you do get wound up when caught out, don't you? What's wrong with just admitting that you got it wrong?

Damn straight. Woefully unappreciated and one of very few Disney films I can watch without puking up saccharine. Utterly scared the crap outta me as a kid :)

Can't say I felt much when BOB died though, I found him a tad annoying :o

I reckon that was when the BBFC didn't bother reviewing Disney and just passed stuff with a U rating - the bit where Maximillian kills the doctor chap with his rotary arms was pretty fucking hardcore for a kids film, especially since it was implied as well...

Aww, you have no heart for the ole timer :D

Hmm, might have to see if I can find a torrent of that tonight...

ET made me cry as a nipper, and I'm sure it would have the same effect if I watched it today.

Bizarrely, the Rocky films - specifically when the crowd is chanting his name - made me feel quite emotional.

Cool Runnings?

I love that film. I always shed a little tear at then end when they get up from the crash and walk over the finish line carrying the bobsleigh :D

No clips? :(

For those listed already that I like:

From the Rocky films:

The end of this one:

The first bit of this one:

I find a lot of times that it is the music that stirs me. Will think of my own choices another day.
