Films that aren't shit but you could never watch again.

Totally understand about Irreversible, but why wouldnt you watch Cache again? The part where the moroccan guy kills himself on camera? :hmm:

Who the fuck was the stalker?? The son?? That's always bugged me.

Yup that's pretty much why, even though I kind of saw it coming moments before I still found it pretty horrendous. :o

Also I don't think the stalker was anyone, or rather it was rhetorical if you see what I mean..

what do you mean the stalker wasnt anyone??:hmm:

i don't think there is, really. It's not complicated, unless you have a very narrow idea of what "art" is. If art is allowed to be, say, harrowing, then it's not complicated to have great art you wish to experience only once
One of the things you are saying when you say a work of art is good is that, all things being equal, you recommend experiencing it. Therefore there is a tension in saying that 'I recommend you do X' and simultaneously saying 'I do not wish to do X'.

It gets more pronounced when you want to talk about art being 'great', which nearly always implies that you believe something is worth repeated viewing/listening/reading. Could you honestly call something great and a) have only seen it once, and/or b) not wish to see it again?

Also, revive that game thing you did where people had to make essay titles from random subjects, because I have this idea about the nature of beards in popular sci fi (usually used to signify the male characters loss of control)
I will, but you can't bring along pre-arranged jokes. The whole point was using what you got given by another poster.

I hope your mum had a good Mum's Day.

She did, aided by the fact that I didn't highlight how you have internet boned her.

Maybe I will try Happiness again then. I do love Solondz films, and enjoy rewatching the rest of 'em.

I don't fancy watching The War Zone again though, with Ray Winstone. As well made and significant as it may well be.

Well like I reckon Haneke didn't write it with any specific person in mind doing the stalking. The significant part was that he was being stalked, not who the stalker was. Something like that!

That's a horrid explanation! How could there be no stalker??

King Kong (the original), watched the remake (pile of shite) a couple of years ago but stopped about 20 minutes before the ending.
