But that's the point of that film (kind of) the kid in the film doesn't want to hear the story for the same reasons. It's a great film.

Monty Python.. Carry on Films,,,, Magnificent men in flying machines... Dr Seuss - the grinch.. Kes,... Watership down.. Swallows and Amazons, any Roal dahl films.. Scooby doo, Crystal Maze.. Spy Kids II

What more could you look for? Kids who are proper spies - Antonio Banderas, Steve Buscemi, Danny Trejo (), Bill Baxton, flying pigs, STOP MOTION SKELETONS (:cool:), directed by Robert Rodriguez. Good clean amusing fun, with a nostalgic and affectionate wink to Ray Harryhausen, and alot of good lines and scenes that will appeal to you both on different levels.

Its *grate*

It's also got a pirate, a giant, screeching eels, revenge, swordfighting and magic. And Columbo.

The Water Babies...half animation half real....as per wizard of oz. The main character is a boy, of about 8 who goes up chimneys amongst other adventures....he can watch it and be glad he isn't a Victorian.

Christ....I saw that at the cinema...he actually gets chased and falls in to a river and that's when his animated adventure begins.

How could I forget The Outsiders???!!! Still one of my favourite films, and I would have been eight or nine when I first saw it, completely by accident. I think it was my sister's turn to choose at the video shop, and she got it right for once!

Back to the Future too, of course.

A great film, but maybe a bit long and confusing for an 8 year old?

My just-turned-6 year old will sit and watch this all the way through, and my 3 year old will pay attention for a lot of it too. 8 is probably perfect :)

:DThat's the one...it's got the lot....child slave labour and child beatings at the start....a touch of a love interest with the posh girl in the big house....and underwater fantasy...what more could an 8 year old boy want eh?

Where the Red Fern Grows.

this was my favourite film evah! when i was 8 or 9, i went to see it at the pictures and cried, cried, cried:(

it has puppies ! :) it has indian legend ! it shows the meaning of true love! it has hunting :( it has bullying :( it has a kid saving up all his pocket money, doing odd jobs to buy some dogs - a lesson to all kids! it has drama, it has comedy

must watch it again, I think they remade it a few years ago, but go for the original

ooh you've made me think of The Incredible Journey ( I think)...saw it when I was about 8/9 at cinema....had a siamese cat and a dog travelling across America....

and then another animal one about lions at the same time....was it Sam and Napoleon or the other way around...anyway an unlikely but touching tale of kid and friendly lion.
