Film: The Secretary - did it turn you on?

There's some great replies on this thread, didn't expect that tbh. I'm glad there's a good few of you out there that agree on it's excellence. Maybe it was helped in my case though by the fact that i didn't even know it was on til i was watching it and I'd never heard about it before so just really stumbled across a good film as opposed to the poster who had read a review and was looking forward to it but ended up being disappointed. That's a shame I reckon. She is lovely yeh that Maggie-i-wont-even-attempt-to-spell-her-surname.

I thought it was bit crap really, well it was alright. From what I remember she replaced an abusive relationship (self-harm) with another (her boss), though there was something hopeful in this movement. Interesting premise, just wasn't that great.

It was in no way an abusive relationship, and it's depressing you think it is.

At the end I felt I didn't know what it was supposed to be... S&M film? rom-com? psychological study (self-harm ->S&M aspect)?

Bit of each I guess, and as such, I thought it a bit disappointing.

NO no, the self harm was abusive! No her relationship with your man, she replaced an abusive one with one that was more functional, but still had a similiar function...

It's a great love story, that's true, I think it's quite a romantic film, and it has something real about it. And I've always had a thing for James Spader's from way back! He has a really kind and interesting face.

kind? isn't that strange - i've always found his expressions a bit creepy, especially his smile. but then, he did my head in in that carcrash film and i don't think i ever forgave him that :D

saying all that, i loved Secretary for all the reasons others have said. and yes, i did get turned on.

<thwack!>

I loved it. Got it on DVD at home - might have to watch it again later :o

It managed to be sexy and sad and touching and sweet and kinky all at the same time.

Speaking of James Spader, anyone else seen 'White Palace' where he gets it on with a world weary Susan Sarandon? *sigh* another one of my favourite movies for similar reasons to those above. No spanking though.

Johnny Depp?? That cold have worked, but only if he was doing his hunter s thompson/pirates of the carribean bendy nutter bit :)
fwiw I loved the film, an ex girlfriend who wanted me to be dominante made me watch it and I don't think I've seen a film since that has taught more more practical skills in anyone area! There is something amazing about that kind of roleplay if your both into it and you have the confidence to be do it.

I can confidently say that this film did not give me the horn at all. Not at all. No, siree... Not me. :hmm:

watched this again last night. such a good film, and it's great how it manages to be so sexy without relying on any explicit out-and-out nooky scenes. it's very funny, too.

It's ace, but it's called Secretary, not The Secretary.
 at self for not being able to resist pointing this out

I echo what has already said, an excellent film, but did anyone think the music was, y'know, a bit shite?
