Exactly what I thought
I'm leaning towards just naming a film, rather than any polls, as I wouldn't get that much feedback and it wouldn't be that helpful.
A bittersweet comedy about office politics, sleazy fat cats, unrequited love and attempted suicide....film rarely get much better than The Apartment
Wonderful script, wonderful performances, plenty to make you laugh and cry....
make em watch Beasts of No Nation.
Satantango. 7 hours long but speeding it up will bring it under the 2 hour mark and give it a humourous alvin and the chipmunks feel.
failing that Cremaster Cycle or Shoah
In order of Comedy>Dark Humour
Hunt For The Wilder People
Dead Mans Shoes
Harold and Maude
Hopefully there will be a few people saying 'where has this been all my life?'
Bjarnfreðarson (2009) - IMDb
Brilliant film. Unlikely anyone has seen it. And there are thee tv series to go to if anyone loves it. Only drawback is subtitles. I would also say Dreamland although its not light and also subtitles.
they showed that last year
and the year before that
The Princess Bride
I doubt Empire would be what you're after.
How about Sing Street? It's entertaining and plenty of people may not have seen it
I think Orang Utan has nailed it too. All great films with broad appeal but not fucking dross like Vin Diesel. The Hudsucker Proxy in particular is a great and underrated film that a lot of people may not have seen but will enjoy I'm sure.
I would add Goodfellas to the list.
And I would just go ahead and choose the films Cloo. You will never get consensus and if you did it woild be something shit. Like Vin Diesel.
Just reading the Winter Olympics thread and thought.. ..well...what about the Eddie The Eagle film?
Nymphomaniac 1& 2
I've only ever been to one work's organised film viewing.
My workplace had its own proper cinema and so some brightspark decided to organise a regular movie event for staff at work.
The first film shown was Blade. It was a relatively new film at the time. We all seen it before. But the blood bath disco was still cool.
I didn't go to any of the subsequent ones.
Yeah, this will be a one-off as part of a year of events. We have a 'council chamber' with big screen we can use Campaign is for our organisation and members to raise enough in our 150th anniversary year to pay for 150 youth homelessness beds in UK. If this goes ok hopefully can add a couple of quid towards it.
How about Brassed Off or Pride?
I trust you'll be applying for a license to show the film
I like that idea
Bung in a Buster Keaton short for light relief like The Railrodder and then put on ---
Le Sang des bêtes
It's almost like a Scala programme circa 1980
and then tea and buns
Nice programme, I'd watch that. Are you selling tickets?
Fucking brilliant film, a great favourite of mine.
You Can Count On Me
