Film night at work

Soooo, I seem to have agreed to organise a film night at work (we have a big charity campaign this year and a good room with big screen to show a film). Idea is to show something that will have wide appeal, and be fun to watch together.

I anticipate average age of audience might be mid-30s, be looking for something that runs under two hours. I think I have a couple of options for deciding - could put a poll of genres, so we can narrow it down that way, and then have a poll of specific films, or just have a poll on one of those, or just have no poll and just put on a film.

Any suggestions for what might be good, either genre or specific films?

I wonder if comedy might be good? eg Ferris Bueller, Airplane, Naked Gun films, The Hangover, In the Loop, etc

What genre do you think would suit all of them?
    Would classic comedy work?
    Some Like It Hot...maybe?

You could have a 20s themed night....

I've watched mean girls, memento and the new It this weekend. All good films with pretty broad appeal, I would say. Horror, comedy or thriller, as long as the film is compelling and has something vaguely interesting to say, it's gonna be a winner.

I would pick something relatively recent that people might have missed and will actually want to see. I'd have a preference for arthouse, you might prefer Hollywood.

What are the people like at your work?

You'd probably enjoy pancreatitis then. I give both a very low rating.

It's a pretty mixed workplace, age and background wise. Slight female majority.

Don't think I'd do horror as that's really not some people's bag (certainly not mine), and while I love sci-fi I suspect that would also put some people off, but I'm leaning towards comedy.

8115 - I think what you suggest would be a good idea and I was kind of thinking of it, but might be hard to identify something that falls into that space for enough people.

I think obvious ones that everyone will have seen loads like Back to the Future etc are done to death, so finding between the obvious and the overly obscure.

Recentish, comedy, up for an oscar (can't remember what cat) it's not hilarious, but is kind of heart warming and tackles a few interracial relationship struggles.

Fez909 - that might be a good call; lots of pop culture references, would have wide appeal without lots of people having seen it.
