Film Four to be free for everyone

My Freeview box is the same, I only get the +1 channels. I do rescan periodically but I tend to lose channels rather than find new ones. I've been told my neck of the woods (Liverpool) is pretty poor for Freeview reception anyway.

I live in Liverpool and get perfect Freeview reception and all the channels (thats smack bang in the city centre though)

well, the telewest basic package doesnt have all the freeview channels. no sign of itv4 either...

As a film production company Film Four went bust a few years ago.

It's going free because they didn't have enough subscribers...

I suspect (cost of advertising + administering subscription service) ~= (revenue from subscription service), and some bright spark noticed they'd have more sellable advertising space on C4 as well as more valuable advertising space on Film Four, thus probably tipping the balance in favour of freeing it up...
