Fighting Fantasy books - Crap / Not Crap

I had loads of these books and I always cheated but I don't rememebr ever finishing one . I think Karma was telling me something

and shouldn't there be a poll if it's a crap/not crap thread  I want to vote

Amazon have got the first eight books in a box set for £19.79. Tempted , very tempted.

Having said that I could probably spend a few hours rooting through my old bedroom cupboard and find the dog eared originals.

i agree with marilyn manson though. he said, of his experience as a pubescent fantasy geek: "every game of d&d you play adds a month on to the time til you lose your virginity" i believe the same applies to FF books...

i never played the sci-fi ones. they bored me. i liked the sword and sorcery shit.

They were fucking Ace when I was 12, doubt I'd enjoy them much now.

'Deathtrap Dungeon' was my fave

Was this the one where you had to roll a dice and flip backward and forward through scenarios. I read an indiana jones book that did this too. Loved it when I was a nipper. Seems so long ago.

But those are the updated covers and nowhere near as good as the old ones.
The covers have gone all modern and glossy. And they only have some of the books.
Will definately have to go and dig out the old ones at the weekend so can compare.

Deathtrap Dungeon had a sequel, Trial of Champons. It had a cool Gladiator-stylee arena deathmatch bit.

i remember that, right at the beginning you woke up in an arena and you had to get home:cool:

Aye, and that one had a follow up too, Armies of Death. Involved you blowing your Trial of Champions fortune on a cool army. It was really really good. And well hard too.

*Skulks away in shame*

I didn't know that! I wish I'd found out earlier... when I was young...

Now I've been spoilt by Sony and Eidos and their kin and can only enjoy adventures via the medium of PlayStation and PC games.

I think I had every book mentioned on this thread :o

they where

I think the Way of the Tiger ones where my favourite, apart from Bruce Lee flicks they where the biggest influence on me to don a pair of black jim jams and join the nearest martial arts class I could find (Lau Gar as it happened).

Did anyone play the GrailQuest books? They were comedy adventures in a Douglas Adams/Pratchett kind of a way.

yes :o

Warlock of firetop mountain, i think that was the book where my potion that turned me into a dark elf kept running out in the middle of a city of them, who then then proceeded to kick my pansy 12 year old arse all over the place.

I might have to get me a new copy of it :D

I swear there was a site where you could play these games online, and it would work out the fights for you etc. - eg. make it play like an old text adventure game...

Having raided my attic as promised I realise I have 52 of these damn things!
(and I think some more I couldn't find)
My god no wonder I never copped off at school...

I've taken photo's for us all to geek over. As soon as my stupid webhost starts working i'll post a link.

ohh the shame..........:o
