Fields of the Nephilim

I recall these fuckers wearing cowboy gear (circa Clint Eastwood) spray on dust and a fondness for Carol's Liber Null & Psychonaut book.
How scary were they?
About as scary as a boxful of kittens.

But more scary than Jaz "I'm an evil magician who's going to curse you" Coleman. :)

^ you wont find me defending em
Soz just a couple of people seemed very po faced about my comment that they were just a shit Bauhaus rip off. I was very mid teens when they were about and that was what there non fans would say about them. The idea that 20 years later I am supposed to take them seriously as anything other than AN Other late eighties goth band is just an excuse for silliness.

My god people are defending late eighties goth. Its like reading an NME letters page back in 89 or something.

You poor sad old men. have a hug (((you))).

i'm not defending it, dumbass - i didn't like them. But your comparison was a totally inaccurate one is all

Yup.

Like comparing the Birthday Party and early Simple Minds. :D

I think you'll find that they were gigging (and released several EPs and singles) for 3-4 years before Dawnrazor came out. :)

Yeah I can't really see the similarities either. Joy Division were pretty sparse, whereas Fields of the Nephillim had a drawn out, layered, lush kind of sound.

I was 18 in 1989 and listened to FoTN, Bauhaus, Joy Division etc loads and you're talking bollocks.

I used to love Nod's corner in the Melody Maker, all those frustrated paradiddles and homepride moments.

And Carl making him go and stand in the corner for such crimes as not learning to summon demons. :)

Having just unpacked all my vinyl which has mostly been boxed for about 20 years I gave The Nephilim a spin.
I bought the remastered double album (or 2x1 2" singles) version and never played it as I already had the original version.
Played it for the first time ever tonight. Sounds fucking immense and worth necromancing an eight year old thread for.

This thread is fascinating. Given how fast the internet changes it's more like reading something written a hundred years ago than just eight.
