Field Day- Victoria Park 11th August?

i just got an email from the stewarding company..looks like im working:D

hope they put me near the music and not near the entrance or something..
hope sods stewarding law isnt in effect for this.(i.e.the more you want to see a band, the less likely you will posted at the front of the stage:p )

Well, it's tomorrow and I've had no response to my angry foodmail!
Nevermind, going to go and enjoy a an overpoliced day in the park with some overpriced lager and a lot of overlytrendy bands.
Wicked!
Should be good actually, really looking forward to Electrelane and then the rest can take care of itself. Hopefully be a chance to get some good dancing in at some point too.
Whoopee!

I like the fact that the website still says "full travel festival info coming soon". Sort it out you lazy nu-rave fuckers.

I'm planning to smuggle in some scotch, and perhaps some polo mints. Wish me luck.

Do you reckon Hackney Wick will be be the closest station, I think on their myspace page it said hackney central but I had a look on the map and that didn't look too close. Not really my neck of the woods.

Mile End (on the central line) is about 5 - 10 mins walk from the park :)

i dont know what end of the park they hold paid events in..its a fairly large park..bethnal green on the central line isnt a huge walk to viccy park, have a look on the a to z ..i find the central line to have much much better service than the silverlink to hackney central..
anyway hackney central isnt that close to viccy park..
hackney wick definately isnt close to viccy park:rolleyes: yeah are the organisers on drugs or sumthin:confused:

yeah everybody sneak in a load of food and booze and enjoy yrselfs..:D

im not too confident ill be working there sadly..the stewarding company hasnt run me after they sent me an email :(
shame cos it looks pretty

ps..yeah mile end is prolly right..its the stop after bethnal green..the park is kinda in 2 sections and i guess the festival is in the more easterly bit..but they should be making it clear on the website..we aint all locals FFS

When you leave Mile End station there's a big crossroads - walk down Grove Rd (think that's it's name) and it'll take you straight to the park :)

Indeed, their directions are well shabby.
Bethnal Green or Mile End should do the trick. The entrace'll probably be on grove Road.
But it's not my yard so I don't really know for sure... going to bringing a map I reckon!

Yeah I just had a look on streetmap to see where mile end is, going straight up gove rd looks like the best option.

Urban pre-Field Day meet-up? I'm going to be rocking up to this alone, as everyone else I know will be coming from elsewhere. So I'm game :D

Not sure what time I'm getting there, but I'll be wearing a bright yellow t-shirt that says "Procrastinators: Rulers of tomorrow" on it. Come and say hello if you see me :)

Twas shite, so badly organised

Only two bars in the venue and seriously undermanned

Took about an hour to get served

Ridiculous

Well I had a fun day, but yeah, the bar situation was ridiculous. Gave up even trying to get beers most of the day. Mate queued for 45 minutes, bless him. 10,000 people, two bars with six people in each = bad maths.

Thought Florence and the Machines were great. Erol Alkan was a good laugh. Weatherall/Smagghe nice and thumping. Late of the Pier were better than I thought they'd be. Justice were good but far, far too quiet.

Enjoyed it, but the queues for beer, food, toilets did take the shine off the day.

Absolute shambles.
Totally ruined by the insane queues for everything. The plus side of which was that I only bought 1 beer, so they lost a fair amount of revenue from me, and probably many othe rpeoples.
Appallingly organised, I was really disappointed.
Elecrelane rocked (of course:)), but it was too quiet and too rammed in the tent.
The Buged Out tent was ridiculously small, but Weatherhall/Smagghe were by far the best thing of the day, but I had to dance outside the tent to actually get any space to move at all.
Overall, a fucking rubbish festival, good line-up, but would have prefered to cotch in the park with my friends and a tinny stereo and some beers.
Organised by profiteering trendoid indie retards?

Am I the only one to get claustrophobia in these things. 1O hours trapped inside a fence about a hundred metres in diameter with 1O,OOO people. Bloody pigpen, no readmittance, no booze, no WATER!!

It was about 3O degrees all afternoon with no hint of shade. Good to have it confirmed the Shoreditch Twats are just as bad as the Carling Festival.

There was a drinking water tap, but, unsurprisingly, there was a bloody great queue for it most of the day.

No, I felt that way when I went to the recent Lovebox there. Although at leats that seemed better organised. I wanted to go to this but didn't get my arse in gear to get a ticket. Glad I didn't now.

I heard it was a total shambles, quite frankly i am amazed they they messed up so badly, they were planning it for long enough and if you read the back slapping profiles of the two guys (who i won't name here) you'd think this would've been the best organised event in London this year!

It was quite a weird one, as the music was great, and seemed well organised (on time etc) – and I heard a few good bands I hadn't heard before - another vote for Florence and the Machine, Euros Child did a nice set and Absentee were good as well, but everything else was a shambles, and also really tight (£3 for a programme!), not letting you take food or even water in, then there not being enough inside.

My friend just got an email apologising, saying that they were swamped – that they didn't oversell the tickets (the rumour going around on the day) they just didn't anticipate the demand there would be for beer etc, seemed a bit feeble, but at least they've admitted it.

Feeble? Pathetic excuse, the love box on sunday had about 5k and that had no queues at any time for the bar. It was pretty hot.

I just received the apology, and it's pretty limp.
At least they can admit their failings, but "it was in line with council regs2 is not a good reason for not having any foresight.
what surprises me most is that all the people involved have not insubstantial pedigree, and surely Bugged Out could easily have asked The End to tell them roughly how many beers they sell to get a vague estimate of how much booze they could expect to sell per unit time.
It's not like they ran out of space to put bars. :D
Or toilets.

Maybe they were just expecting everyone to be absolutely munted on drugs and not want any booze? In which case they also did quite badly because no-one tried to offer me any drugs of any sort all day!

I am distinctly "meh" about it. I've been to free parties that were infinitely better organised!

This just came through to everyone on the EYOE mailing list....

Sunday 12th August 2007

Thank you for attending our first Field Day. Hands up, we got swamped. Sorry, it was our first festival and the queues were clearly too big.

We did not oversell the event and the amount of all the toilets and the bars were approved by the council. However, we clearly did not anticipate the demands on the bars from a Field Day crowd and there were clearly nowhere near enough.
Next year we will be at least doubling both the bars and the toilets.

We feel very disappointed about these problems and we hope that it did not affect your enjoyment of the music and other activities too much.

Thank you once again for attending the first Field Day, we will improve.

Yours Sincerely

Field Day collective.

That's hardly surprising though, really, is it? People putting on an event of this kind for the love of it, rather than to run a profit, will almost inevitably put more effort into making sure it goes well.

So, for example, there will be no restrictions on people turning up with their own stash, but free party people also generally make sure that there are enough supplies to satisfy the hungry hordes.

This ting sounds like a pure bag of shite tbf and the apology of an apology is, imvho, laughable, they should be ashamed of such garbage.
