FFS! The Jam reform... without Weller

Some dodgy attitudes towards homosexuality as well, i've heard.

Not sure about that.

The video for the Long Hot Summer was banned for its 'homosexual overtones'-I distinctly remember seeing him being interviewed about this and his attitude seemed fairly right on to me.

Weller is well sound. He's bit of a hippy despite his mod leanings. I know for a fact he took alot fof persuading to allow 'Going Underground' to be the playout song of the film of 'The Football Factory' because he didn't want any of his music to be associated with glorifying violence. He was 17 when he made the vote tory comment (in '77) and regretted it almost immediatly. It was more about winding up The Clash than anything else.

For anyone who was 13-16 in 1978 - 1981, The Jam were a fucking amazing singles band. Remember when they went straight in to No1, first band to do that since The Beatles.

All Mod Cons/Setting Sun/Sound Affects - three great albums.

.

i was 13, 1978, and they were:)

I read today that Weller said he would need to be really down on his luck to ever play with the other two again. What a charmer. Here's hoping he soon reaches that condition and they turn him down.

Urging people to vote Tory???

Eh?

Wasn't he part of that Red Wedge thing though??

Blimey, either he's confused or I am.

Interviewed by the NME, where he uttered some tacit support for the Tories around '79. The nondescript incumbent, Callaghan was the other choice of course, which was no choice really.

I don't recall him being involved with Red Wedge. Are you confusing that with his appearance in the Live Aid single?

Btw, saw them perform in an old tram shed 1978.

It was '77, just after The Jam had pulled out of the tour with the Clash after The Rainbow gig and it was in response to an NME journo winding him up about them and politics, he said "I think I'll just vote Tory in the next election". He retracted it almost immediatly and by '79 was fully involved in CND and writing Setting Suns which is a socialist anti Tory album ("Little Boy Soldiers", "Eton Rifles"). He was involved in Red Wedge around the early Style Council days and very involved in CND.

That doesn't quite gel for me with stories of him not being 'well sound' at all in personal behaviour.

OOh, get you Mr Moralist, why dont you be a little more bitchy. What's he meant to be, a saint? How many musicians are squeaky clean? Sound like you should be writng for the Daily Mail.
