"Festivals": the end of season debrief

Fruitstock was advertising their wretched capitalist smoothies but I aught to point out that this happens in some shape or form at all festivals. - jesus, even the morris men at the village fair were sponsored (by The Bell public house).

Bunch of sluts!

Wireless: superb day out, simply for watching the Editor gripe and moan about what was always going to be a big gig in a field, and for having his camera confiscated when the tickets cleared stated "we will confiscate your camera".
Yep. Guitly as charged. What was I doing thinking I;d be able to take "unauthorised" photos!

Thing was the bag-rummaging, airport style security staff at the entrance seemed quite arbitary as to what cameras were deemed 'professional' or not and that was what was rattled my aperture.

Well, that and the fucking advertising everywhere. "Moto Meadow" and "o2 Stage" (text for entry), my arse!

Thames Festival and Stokefest aside, later this month, it is for me :( x 10,000

I always get sad at the end. I'll probably be really depressed next week. Bestival is my last one. I'm going to miss Stokefest because i'll be oop north. Had a great time there last year :(

This year so the welcome return in my life (since the birth of my last child) of the three day bender:D , and there could be no better festival choosen for it, than Endorse it, with it's lovley oldschool vibe, really friendly, safe, messy, with rockabilly music (!! )...and just so much fun.
It certainly was crusty...and I loved every last minute of it!

Other than that , the Big Sexy festival, was about my best day out in London. Excellent weather, tremendous sound system, lots of great punk bands...all for free.
Quality.

We didn't go to any this year - too skint after our big purchase. What I'd really like to do next year is take our boat to Strawberry Fayre and Womad. That would be very nice :)

This year did (or am doing....still one left to do....) OTT Spring, Wickerman, Wychwood, Thimbleberry June, Thimbleberry September, Big Session, Endorset in Dorset, Endorset Indoors, Beautiful Days.

The weather at all except wychwood was rubbish, so booh to that.

The best was probably either Endorset (great site, good lineup, shite weather) with thimbleberry (bonkers, organised by Haddock on crack) a very close 2nd.

Wickerman was....oddest. Shit weather (again), strangely presbytarian, and with a lineup that consisted entirely of people who were dead.

wychwood and big session were oddly middle class, as aqua said, though quite child friendly, so would consider again. Plus big session has Kids entertainer Doctor Colin, who is a good mate,, and close to being the best act I saw all year.

Bunnymen and alabama 3 at Beautiful days were probably the best acts of the year, with ALL the acts at wickerman being the worst.

Less fests for us this year (though thats what we said last year). Glasto will be one (ticket fairys permitting), and fancy A Rum do. Beyond that, we'll see hos it goes.

i think you're exaggerating a bit. The weather at Endorse It! wasn't brilliant but it was far from shite - a bit of drizzle, grey skies, no downpours.

but it was freeeezing at night! we were driven into tents because it was soo cold on the friday....

saturday and sunday were just grey and a bit rubbish i grant you, but it was reet cold at night

Still got Bestival this weekend, and possibly End of the Road the weekend after (if I can face the trek back from Cornwall in the van on Friday). But have done Wychwood, Larmer Tree, Wickerman and Beautiful Days.

Wychwood was a bit middle class (but nothing compared to Larmer Tree where unless you can have an earnest 30 minute conversation about the long term side effects of organophosphates they wont let you in), but I'd go again.

Wickerman was, as bus has said, faintly surreal. Fantastic site, but a line up largely consisting of the past it or the dead (Rick Buckler's Jam tribute band FFS). Plus it was so foggy one day that you couldn't see the stage. And me and bus were a bit (ahem) poorly on the Friday night.

Larmer Tree was so hot that it could have been used as the set for Lawrence of Arabia - but despite being resolutely middle class it's a nice little fest, with some great acts. Subgiant were immense.

Beautiful Days is a bit of a blur. But the Bunnymen were good.

Best act of the year probably Son of Dave at Larmer Tree.

You'd have been a corpse at Knockengorroch Spring in My then -- ice on the tent, one morning, and shedloads of rain

Quite chilly at Endorse It, sure, but hardly any rain compared to the rubbish forecast!

Can i ask our resident weather expert what to expect on the Isle of Wight this weekend. The Beatival website says that the island traditionally has an indian summer at this time of the year

:)

There's no such thing as bad weather... just bad clothing :p (within reason obvioulsy)

Workhouse Festival, Powys:
Hot and sunny!!! A wicked little festival. Very inexpensive... even cheaper for me thanks to Lizzieloo and Nelyphant :) Highlights: Horace X and meeting some people I've not seen for years.

Endorse It in Dorset:
Fantastic. One of the best I've been to for a while. Highlights: RDF, Neville Staples and the Cracked Actors.

Beautiful Days:
Good. Had a lot to live up to after Endorse It the weekend before. Highlights: Pama International and discovering chocolate spread on pancakes (cheers moons'til :D )

I nearly was at thimbleberry in june. it was baltic, and i forgot to take any trousers.....

and I'm back there again in 2 weeks *sob*

Stawberry Fair - Great weather and good day out. The guys with the sax and drums afterwards kept us going for a while as well

Thimbleberry (June) - Twas bloody cold but total madness :D

Glade - My fave festy of the year, the weather couldn't have been any better and music was imense (Zinc on the Saturday a highlight for me)

Beautiful Days - Some priceless moments of randomness never to be forgotten

OTT (Aut) - I really enjoyed this little fest, and I got to meet some of you crazy fools

Thimbleberry (Sept) - Still to go, if it gets half as messy as June it'll be a belter :)

Bloody cold isn't even halfway there it was freezing!! :p

This summer I did -
Thimbleberry June, great fun with some great people, don't remember much about the music other than the crazy techno cowshed!
The Big Chill - Second time at this one and there is just something so relaxing about this festy, it can be a bit prentenious (sp?) but I enjoyed it, although don't think I'll be going back next year to be honest.
Reading - A bit of a tradition to do this one, and seeing Pearl Jam was brilliant, particularly because i had only been introduced to them a few months before the festy (it takes me a while to catch on, haha).

Would have to liked to go to Beautiful Days but couldn't get the time off and was short on cash, but hey there is always next year!:)

Big Sexy Fest – ace, punk carnage.
Strawberry Fair – good, Cambridge is a bit weird though.
Rise – Shit.
Lambeth Country Show – very good, wanted to stay longer

damn i think that's all for this year.

Only managed Glade so far this year and it was as great as last year. Fantastic music and a proper old school atmosphere, still got Thimbleberry to come though which we're really looking forward to.
