Female drummers?

i believe Atomic Suplex have a female drummer.
Actually in Tokyo i think the majority of bands that we saw had female drummers, both mixed and all-girl.

All those photos, and I've never noticed a drummer 'til now; I assumed there was full-on drum-machine action. :o

Rather predictably, I can only name The 5.6.7.8's.

we have only had a drummer for not long.
the 5678s played at the same club that we were at, but i am talking about smaller mostly unsigned bands

Beverley Fullen used to play the drums for Hepburn

Allison Miller currently plays drums for Ani Difranco

Carolina Parra from CSS plays drums on "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above"

That's all I can think of that hasn't been mentioned already

Yeah, I did think that's the kind of thing you meant. Is it a healthy scene over there?
it is small but perfectly formed, loads more exciting than london! (for rock and roll type things anyway). there are very few venues for it and they are tiny but filled with crazyily up for it people. also all the bands are better than every band i have seen in london! both in the way they play and orginality and general craziness of performance. and everyone is super enthusiastic and no attitude or "trend" bands. (this is from my very limited experience, of course)

I saw them in 2004 but it was a night I'd rather not remember... for a wholly unrelated reason. But I loved their beehives.

I think that was the same tour I was supposed to see them. Maybe they were washing their wigs or something... ;)

-On the upside, I've just remembered I did get into the club/gig for free that night though.. :)

Sounds in rude health. I expect you're already saving up to go back...

Steady on!! :D

Samantha Maloney from Hole is sly. Fucking great performance with the Eagles of Death Metal a few years back.

Whatshername, the lady who's been playing with Sparks recently. I was sad to hear that Dinky Diamond, a former drummer of theirs hanged himself. Rachel Rep who played with The bloke from Die Artze . Shame about the tune. Then there's the Donnas, Eyeliners and Shonen Knife ladies. And last and least, bonkers "christian punkpop" trio of sisters, Barlow Girl.

heh... August 2004, yes?
at least it sounds like you had a better night than me :)

Doh, of course there's also post-punk bands like The Slits, The Raincoats, Kleenex/Liliput, etc.

And L7, and The Lunachicks.
And The Runaways.
And The Roches.
And Huggy Bear.
And Bikini Kill, etc.

Blimey, thousands of 'em... :)

I was going to say The Slits...well, Palmolive, as Budgie took over the drums for a spell. As you say, there's loads of 'em. :)

Vivian Boys are signed (you can't forget Nao Nao). Tiger Lillies were signed.

Madame Cats are about to be.

Earth have got an amazing female drummer. She moves in weird slow motion.

yes. she's fucking awesome. Sooo disciplined and metronomic.

Acid Mothers Temple have a female drummer who is just amazing. One of the best drummers i've seen for a very long time.

Lots of riotgrrl bands, naturally, though it's mostly small bands I'm thinking of. We see quite a few of them out and about - more commonly in all-girl bands, but it's not that unusual to see them in mixed bands too. My GF drums in a band called Candy Panic Attack, with a female singer/guitarist and male bassist.

My obligatory electrelane post

Are you in that band then? I think we've played with them a couple of times.

We (Helen's Evil Twin) had a female drummer till recently, too. Now, no drummer. :(

There's a really good female rock band called the Kut that play the Grosvenor in Brixton every now & then http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=54542058

They also play the Soho Arts Theatre now and then - the singer's a friend of ours and runs a good night there one Thursday a month, and some Saturdays.

and on this website I found this woman's myspace whose name is Fidan & she says she's been playing drums for 7 years & studied at the Drumtech School of Music.

Blinding !

I'm pretty sure she used to (or sometimes still does) play for the Kut, but I might be thinking of a former incarnation of the band, or I might be talking out of my arse.

I believe the Bangles had a lady drummer....

I believe (although I could well be wrong) that the Bangles didnt actually play their instruments, they certainly never played live.

That being the case they didnt have a female drummer just a female who sat behind some drums.
