She was in a fucking great series with Rob Brydon a few years back- the one where she played an Alanis Morrisette tribute act was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Again, Brydon's a household name and Davis isn't. Me nah get it.

It's not sexism, it's the fact that Brydon and Gervais have made much more commercial programmes than Davies. She seems to stick to stuff which has a very dark quality and is not at all mainstream.

Fair point and you might be right: though the darkness you're talking about is a quality she shares with someone else she's worked with, Chris Morris. Again, Morris has had far more acclaim...

Finally caught up with this programme on BBC4 this evening.

Quite brilliant.

I remember Fanny Craddock appearing on Jonathan Ross's Last Resort in the late 80s (must have been one of her last appearances) and thinking "who on earth[ is that?".

Watched it again last nightand thoroughly enjoyed it. They followed it with the episode of Big Time where Fanny criticised the housewife from Devon. It didn't look like a sacking offence and she actually took Fanny's advice about the pudding. But this was in an era when people were much more polite on TV.
