What's the problem with eating meat substitutes if they taste nice and you like them? Why not, ffs?
pointless nitpicking it would appear.

I can understand that.
I don't know. I am not a vegetarian.

I can just about understand that.
If I went vegetarian though, I would just eat meals based around vegetables, and not bother having replacement meat products.
It is not like there is a shortage of delicious vegetarian meals or anything.
I don't know. It still doesn't make sense. Not for me, anyway.
and it's shoving proper veggie food off the supermarket shelves.![]()

There are plenty of delicious pasta based meals. Doesn't mean I can't eat rice based ones as well.Because there are so many delicious vegetarian recipes that are all about the vegetables.
Hardly. I've been veggie for over 20 years, so I think I've pretty much "let go" of meat. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy a substitute, if it tastes nice.I do think it is not being able to quite let go of meat based meals. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
I don't know much about Colombian foreign policy but I'm juts about to start a thread about it![]()
I read somewhere that omnivores account for more of the meat-substitute market than vegetarians.I think that Quorn is aimed at the dieting meat-eating market just as much, if not more so than vegetarians. Just look at the labelling....

I am not trying to be controversial!
I am just saying that there are plenty of simple vegetarian recipes out there that don't need meat-substitutes. It is not like there is a lack of them. That is what I would do if I were to become vegetarian.
I am not slagging anybody off for eating quorn.

I think you're missing mine. Ner ner. Fingers crossed. No returns.I think you are missing my point, really.

Why not just have some vegetables instead of a synthetic product of questionable origin?
You can get all the protein you need naturally instead of having a meat-substitute burger.
What danny said makes the most sense to me.
Like I said, if I went veggie, I would just give up on meals that are based on meat altogether.

Do you need a hug?
I am sorry I even said anything.

Me neither. Mostly, Quorn is fairly shit. But there are plenty of meat substitutes that taste quite nice and can contribute to a meal. That's not fundamentally any different from having a slice of nut roast with your spuds.Quorn itself just doesn't appeal to me, and I don't really understand its appeal when there are so many delicious vegetables to eat.
Honestly, I wasn't criticizing anybody for their dietary choices or anything. I admire vegetarians.

I am not criticizing those who do choose to eat it. Just to be clear.
Don't worry, I understood you, and as a vegetarian agreed with you.Honestly, I wasn't criticizing anybody for their dietary choices or anything.

I don't think of quorn as an alternative to meat any more than a carrot or potato is. I like quorn because it adds a texture and chewiness that I have yet to find in vegetables and pulses, I like how it can take on the flavour of whatever you stick it in too.
It IS handy for when meat eatears come over too though, some of my family have even said they liked quorn sausages more than pig ones.

also, the quorn mince is really good for making spag bol. if you get a decent sauce going it soaks up a lot of flavour, is low calorie and much cheaper than disgusting mince!
the chicken pieces are revolting though!
i really like the chicken pieces!
Have tried different brands and some of them were indeed very rubbery and gross but proper quorn ones in the orange packet are yumma. That would depend entirely on your taste preference though, wouldn't it? I mean veggie bacon is nothing like the real thing, but I far prefer it. I'm not one of those veggies who's all precious and squeamish about meat either, but I never liked the salty, chewy, fatty bacon experience. Doesn't do it for me. Fried cardboard, on the other hand, I love.Quorn's ok, but when people start pretending that it's somehow better than the thing it's meant to be substituting you're on ropey ground. It's a different textural experience, but it's not a miracle product with chameleon properties.

How the fuck do you make decent spag bol without a beef flavour? It's meant to be a thick beefy sauce, not a sea of tomato with a few random bits of fungi protein chunks

i was just saying the mince stuff can be useful as a meat substitute because it's good at soaking up flavour and i *personally* wouldn't want to eat mince. sorry if that got misinterpreted, but calm down
