Favourite Living Comedian?

ken dodd's still alive and performing, unless i missed his death - i've seen him advertised as playing blackpool this summer. or is that some joke about him being old?

anyway, seriously - i know he's not particularly cool, but i've seen a lot of standups and none of them can touch dodd. he's amazing...

as i said, a short clip (which is likely to be all i can find) wouldn't do him justice. i've a 90 minute tape somewhere (probably a quarter of the actual show he did that night) which gives an idea - if i can be arsed i'll dig it out and digitise it...

Aye, that's pretty good. :D

I watched a DVD of his the other night and I like him more since I've seen his standup. I only knew him from 'Black Books' before and thought he was acting. i realise the character's just him, really. :D

He does louche very well. :)

Vic Reeves. (and therefore Bob Mortimer.)
The first comedians I truly loved, and I've never loved any more since.

I always had a soft spot for The Stotts.

Stewart Lee

Anyone who proves William Wallace and Robert the Bruce were gay lovers to a Scottish audience has balls of steel.

a man after William's heart ;)

Sean Locke - he's not my favorite, but he's one of them. Larry David's another. Bill Bailey, Dylan Moran..

killler b, a friend of mine is always going on about Ken Dodd being a really good standup - goes on for hours apparently.

Honestly, I like Bill Bailey on TV and I've seen him do some ok stand up but I just find him annoying as a stand up and had to turn off a dvd of his I bought recently.

I think, for me, it's between David Cross, Stewart Lee, Richard Herring, Rob Newman, Dave Chapelle and Sarah Silverman at the moment. Honourable mentions for Lloyd Lanegan and Glenn Wool, who I saw at the Fringe recently and both of whom were very, very funny.

At an absolute push, I'd say David Cross.

off to see Doug Stanhope tomorrow, really looking forward to that

I was a bit disappointed by Doug Stanhope, after all the hype. He just IS Bill Hicks, even more so than the Bill Hicks impersonator doing the rounds last year! His delivery, his subject matter...his entire schtick. Don't get me wrong, I like him but I can't help but think Hicks did it better every time I see Stanhope.

Bailey, Izzard, Morris and Connolly....

All for different reasons and different moods.

Bailey as an all round performer is fantastic.
Naturally funny guy, bit of a oddity but does not (as far as I can tell) take himself seriously.
His stage show shows what an amazing musician he is and so bloody creative.
Black Books is another great role...

I'd*like to see Daniel Kitson, heard he is very good.

He's great - he used to be compere of our local comedy club. A bit of a meandering improviser, but genuinely brilliant when it all comes together.

Like Bill Bailey too, although he's never blown me away live. Just a gentle funny man that you can't help but love. Rich Hall's grand too, as is Reginald Hunter.

Most laughter ever? The first time I saw Harry Hill live - he's a 7000mph comedian, a flood of inane jokes that never lets you stop laughing - a clip doesn't really do him justice. But here goes - . It's more the sheer weight of the stupidity which gets you laughing like a drain. Worth watching at least once - there's kind of a diminishing return when you seem him a few times.

Harry Hill is a fucking great stand up. Saw him in a chapel on the isle of dogs at a warm up show a few years back and he had the whole audience in stitches all the way through.

But Leary did it better than Hicks....

Armando Ianucci's book of short sketches is one of the funniest things I've evre read. As a stand-up and script-writer he's pretty patchy though.

Chris Morris is a genius, although not exactly laugh-out-loud funny....
