Favourite heartbreaking songs

Fair enough. At least you gave it a go.

Can I ask you what you disliked about it, just out of interest?

the vocal, the melody, it droned a bit and not dramatic enough. Am particular about female singers i think - i like bjork, pj harvey, macey gray and erykah badu. I am REALLY looking out for new artists i can become obsessed with though.

Three of my favourite heartbreaks songs

I Fall to Pieces by Patsy Cline
It has such a beautiful melody and you can feel the aching and loss in her voice.

Love Hurts by Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris
One of the most honest tunes I've ever heard.

I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton
This "original" is way, way better than Whitney Houstons dull remake. It's so sad because she will always love him, but she knows that she is not what he needs, so she gives him up.:(

soft cell's 'say hello, wave goodbye' is an amazing song - always brings a tear to my eye... one of the greatest bittersweet love songs, imo (david gray can take a fucking jump though).

gillian welch is amazing... did anyone see her on bbc4 the other week? fantastic concert. she did 'the weight' with the old crow medicine show at the end...

oh, and skip james' 'devil got my woman'.

The songs are supposed to break your heart not just stop it.

Mind you a stopped heart is probably broken.

Just listening to American IV: The man comes around by Cash. Pretty much every track will make you cry. Such a loss that he has gone :(

Fuck me that takes me back. I've always loved his voice which was always better than the songs.
not surprised though that:
In 1991, Keifer completely lost his voice due to a paresis of his vocal cord. He also underwent several surgeries to repair a vocal cyst and hemorrhage.[3]

speaking of billie - gloomy sunday.

mind you, she could have made a cover of 'dawning of the age of aquarius' sound heartbreaking...
