The score for Zatoichi astounded me! Great film too.

I find it difficult to compare 'original scores' with 'soundtracks'.
    They are very different things.

I have been kinda indoctrinated into the love of The Natural Born Killers sound track by my husband.
    It is fucking fantastic though.
The use of little bits of songs at perfect times.
I had never heard Rock and Roll Nigger by Patti Smith before and it is a totally astounding song.

However for me personally, not talking sound track or score, the use of Where is My Mind (The Pixies) at the end of Fight Club is one of the most perfect coming together(s) of music and film ever.
I sat there in the cinema with my mouth open unable to move.
Yes I was already a Pixies fan but still.
    Totally genius!

I was actually having a drunken discussion about how most of the 1980s Oscar winners were really quite horrible.

Except for Amadeus. "I suppose you can't knock the soundtrack"
(Though I do sort-of hate Amadeus just because so many people think it's non-fiction)

Rain Man was also a good winner, but it's not really about the soundtrack. :)
