Favourite Film(s).

My favourite film is Jason and the Argonauts. Superb cinematology for the time. Stop motion animation at its best. The skeleton scenes tap into something beyond the film itself:

I wouldn't go as far a tbaldwin, but I find Loach massively overrated.
Land And Freedom is a good film but I can't see why someone would see it as their favourite film, though Blagsta is the second person I have encountered who has said so.

It's a flawed film, but there's something about it that gets me - I'm having a bit of a love affair with Spain at the moment, so maybe that's it. Off to Barcelona next week.

Dead Man's Shoes, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, The Killing Fields, Reds, Dead Man Walking, Blue Velvet, The Shining, Seabiscuit, Donnie Darko, The Doors, Land & Freedom, The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, Heavenly Creatures, American Werewolf in London, The Story of the Weeping Camel, The Cave of the Yellow Dog, Libertarias, Pan's Labyrinth, The Piano, Ryan's Daughter, Casablanca, Gone With The Wind, The Quiet American, The Constant Gardener.

Some of these I saw quite recently so they may not stand the test of time.

Aaaarrgjjj! WHY OH WHY OH WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP CHOOSING THE SYRUPY TOSS THAT IS SHAWSHANK?

It's a thoroughly mediocre film, full of laughable implausibilities but I think it's popularity has got something to do with it being a tearjerker made for men. Shawnshank is just as manipulative as any Hollywood weepy, but somehow it seems to make men feel that they are a better person for having shed a few tears.

To be honest I saw it about 10 years ago and loved it. But back then I didn't watch nearly as many films as I do now. Were I to watch it for the first time now, I dunno if I would love it as much as I did then. Still, that's just conjecture.

Anyhow, I can't believe I forgot to include Dead Man's Shoes or This is England. at self.

Because they like it.

This thread is about favourite films, not Films Orang Utan Approves Of.
