I REALLY wanna try pear cider! It sounds lussshhhhhhh.
I bet you'd love a Babycham, the genuine champagne perry. :D
In those ladylike little (20cl) bottles, its a fun drink for todays independent woman. ;)

dunkertons herefordshire organic cider is my favourite. delicious stuff. :)

that's nice stuff, i'm going to be up in that area in a few weeks, will be buying some of that, and some perry

Scrumpy Jack. Not too sweet, not too dry, I can manage 2 cans and stay sensible at 6%, hits the spot perfectly. Strongbow is moderately tolerable but pretty flavourless really, good if you're knackered and shamble into a pub on a hot summers day but not much cop out of a warm tin on an autumn day, a drinking condition at which Scrumpy Jack excels.

Strongbow will only do in a pub if it’s the only thing going. Magners is more the thing to have in pubs these days! Looks much classier and tastes delish!

Otherwise, I absolutely love Perry! They had some amazing pear ciders at the Great British Beer Festival which got me very plastered as they were mostly 7% plus compared to the weak 3% real ales. Brothers Pear Cider from Glastonbury festival (now also to be found in discerning boozers!) is the dogs proverbials.... mmmmm. Found it in the Lock Tavern in Camden a few weeks ago and that’s rapidly becoming my favourite boozer! And can also buy it on-line – this could be a dangerous development.

Ikea’s pear cider is also good, but not a patch on the real thing...

Otherwise real scrumpy sold on the side of the road.... can be quite hit and miss. Had some that was more akin to paint stripper than appley goodness a few years back in Somerset. But also had some which is utterly fabulous!

Addlestones is well good. Total rocket fuel. I like it when I’m in Scotland. It’s quite radge and that goes with the general atmosphere I find!

On the subject of cooking with cider. I was up in the very very north of Scotland a few years ago for an eclipse party. Went swimming (freeeeezing) in the sea and picked some fresh mussels. Didn’t have much to cook them in apart from some cider. They were totally lush. Mmmmmmmmmmm........

Gee, I didn’t realise I was so into cider until I started writing this post! Anyone want to go for a wee bottle of Brothers Pear in Camden??? :D

go to the brewery if you can - they'll show you round, and sell you gallons of the stuff straight from the barrel (it was cheap as fuck last time i went, though admittedly that was probably 8 years ago). the orchards are nice to wander in if the weather is nice too.

plus they have (or had) a restaraunt selling cider-cooked grub. all good.

Cornish Scrumpy 'til I die. In fact, any scrumpy will do - just airing a wee bit of nationalism for my sins.

But I'll drink pretty much any cider given to me. :D

we were there about 4 years ago, so i'm looking forward to checking it out again :)

Out of the ones available in the shops round here i'd say Westons Organic is my favorite. But the best cider I've had is some my mate brought back from a farm show in Somerset, no idea what it was but it was beautiful.

westons organic is prob my favourite cider. although i am never drinking again ever!

Dunkerton's.
Bulmer's Original - the hand-pumped green stuff. Hard to find, but slips down all too easily.

Anyone know any real cider pubs in South London? Only one I know is the Porcupine on Charing Cross Road.

not a big cider man really, take it or leave it.... westons is nice, my mate had a really nice cider similar to westons the other day which was lush. Sainsburys organic cider is alright aswell, quite like magners... actually im turning into a cider drinking hippy, i didnt realise

welcome to our club! we trust you will be very happy and remember you are free to leave at any time....honest! ;)

I've got a soft spot for Burrow Hill when I'm in Somerset. Doesn't travel well, though..

A militant Cornish friend of mine is always amazing me with his sourcing of fine Cornish cider. There's a surprisingly large number of presses down there.

Recently discovered the unmitigated joy of Chucklehead at the Lambeth Country Show. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

Is tricky to find anything 'proper' in London, although the New Forest Cider company sell at Borough Market - you can pick up 2.5 litres for about 6 quid, and you get a pound off yer next one if you take the container back. It's not great, but it's not bad either, and the blokes who work there are sufficiently bearded to reassure one that they know what they're doing.

There's a pub in Stockwell, the name of which escapes me, which will always have a quality guest cider.

I'd vote on the poll, but I don't see any cider there.. :p

The medium is spot on IMO :)

 if one more person disses my poll, I'll, I'll..... it was my first one, done with a hungover, ok? *goes up to bedroom, slamming door loudly* I hate you, you just don't understand me etc etc! ;)

Check out this great cider site

Also - we should definintely go to the Priory Arms! Looks fabulous!

Maybe for Sunday lunch sometime, the food is supposed to be pretty good and the menu doesn't look too bad. The only cider they have on at the moment is Thatchers Scrumpy cider and Aspall Sufflok Cyder. The menu looks pretty fantastic (although admittedly a bit rubbish for veggies...)

It's a good place for a Sunday lunch, but it's tiny, so you have to hang around drinking cider while you wait for a table, then they move you through pretty quick once you've eaten.

most pubs round here seem to offer either strongbow or blackthorn on tap; neither is much to get excited about imo, but the former is still much better than the latter.
im not a big fan of strongbow- it cant decide whether it wants to be sweet or dry, so it fails miserably- and my only experience of blackthorn is having to neck between 1 and 3 litres of it as my man of the match prize in a rugby match

I had never heard of magners until they started the massive ad campaign recently. still not tried it. seems to be available in bottles in lots of pubs, but never on draught  pricey too, and weak.
tastes just like fizzy water that has a hint of apple :(

Scrumpy jack is very much on the blackthorn/strongbow continuum imo, but still better than either.
bollocks it is
scrumpy beats those two hands down- class above
continuum my arse

westons organic gotta be the best, they do elderflower too as think already mentioned! whats the address of this party then? ;) make sure you spit out the cider after tasting it to appreciate the appley aromas :) apparently in very rural pubs they still serve roast potatos with cider...what a fab combination-think should be ressurected, who needs thai?

I have begun to enjoy cider this summer, in the past it gave me a heartburn feeling. At Glasto this summer I had quite a few burrow hill and some bottles of the pear stuff (which is a perry i know). Since being at home i have had a few cans of merry down and is it scrumpy jack ? Also discovered an organic one in Waitrose which is £8 for 3 litres in one of those handy boxes...oh yeah and a few pints of strongbow....my cider tale !

yeah, scrumpy jack is a gateway drug. I started drinking that and it led me all the way down the line, until I got into Calvados.
Now I fear there is little chance for me.
I urge you, people, just say "no" to the demon drink...
