Favourite Childrens TV Programme As You Were Growing Up

aaaaah Bag Puss

He looks fucking ridiculous now but back in the day I thought he was the mutts nuts!

Muppet Show was probably the first thing I loved. vaguely remember Tiswas. Cheggars Plays Pop was probably another if I'm honest :o

I think Dangermouse is pretty much unsurpassable as far as kids Tv goes. Would even watch it today if I knew when it was on.

Bit too young for Chorlton and the Wheelies but from those I've seen, I'd probably have loved it as a kid.

Terrorhawks and Metal Mickey on a Saturday evening after World Of Sport. Remember the Terrorhawk with the French accent, the baddie was called Zelda(?) and the noughts and crosses on the end credits. Then Star Fleet on a Sunday morning.

Jossys Giants when I was a bit older. I was old enough to know better when Thundercats started but still liked watching em and it was better than The Wide Awake Club* and its crappy Gobots cartoon. Thought the MASK and Transformers cartoons were rubbish compared to the toys.

Friday Films - 4D Special Agent.
Trap Door.

Plenty of things worth remembering that I aren't necessarily my favourites or got me asking questions. Dogtanian and the Three Muskahounds (why didn't they draw trousers on Dogtanian?), Mysterious Cities of Gold (how could Esteban or Tico fall down a canyon and get up as if they'd fallen off a see saw?). Catch The Pigeon (what possessed The General to think Dick dastardley and his goons flying planes or getting Klunk to invent some wotsit would be better to stop the pigeon than a shotgun?)

I still have yet to meet anybody who watched Blue Peter - not have it on the background whilst doing something else but actually sit and watch. Ditto Why Don't You and Beat The Teacher.

Whoever mentioned Battle Of The Planets. According to the 100 Greatest cartoons ever etc on Channel 4 they had to cut about 10 minutes violence from each episode so bought in that R2D2 type thing to narrate it instead.

*Regarding the Wide awake Club, does anyone remember the 2nd incarnation of Minipops they had on there. Not the toddlers in make up from Channel 4 but 10 year olds not made up singing Christmassy type records. I only ask as I don't know anyone that remembers this and I can't be the only one.

rather than just being cut the whole thin was compleatly re-edited as to have a distinctly show than the orginal. it's more like writing a diffrent show but usin the same pictures

the did the same thing to cardcaptor sakura to make cardcaptors ... they often cut 10-15 min from a 25 min show removin all traces of anything that was either japanese chinese(two of the charactors are chinese) or deemed unaceptable (homosexuality etc etc).... mind you i still watched it when it came on citv ..... i'd probably throw stuff at the tv now

cities of gold
ulysses 31
turtles
clangers
rolf harris

i can still watch the clangers for hours, it's like art

In my younger days I was a big fan of American programmes such as CHiPS, Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider, The A Team, Fall Guy etc. Anything by Glen A. Larson generally did the trick for me.

Does anyone remember Chocky

I do remember that, it was quite scary for kids TV

fascinating concept though.. that idea of extra terrestrials visiting via telepathy.

I think Patrick Moore believes that if space aliens were ever to visit us on earth, it would be via thought power rather than using cumbersome tin-buckets and flying-saucers.

I digress..

my faves were the clangers, bagpuss & rentaghost

The Singing Ringing Tree :)
Have since seen it three times in Arts Cinemas as an adult and still love it. I was very surprised to see that it was made in colour (we only had black and white tv in those days).

Nearly forgot about Cities of Gold!!!

Gummy Bears! How could I forget Gummy Bears...

The Care Bears episodes were pretty shoddy but I used to love Care Bears films...

can't remember my favourite, probably teenage mutant ninja turtles or something. I also liked an obscure cosgrove hall show that ran for one series called phantom cat.

anyone remember Biker Mice from mars? god that was rubbish...

So many favourites when I was growing up

pipkins
rainbow
magic roundabout
runaround
magpie
cockleshell bay
tiswas
crackerjack

the list is endless. And another good thing is that some of our treasured kids programmes are all on DVD. Seen pipkins on DVD so will be buying that.

My little boy, who's a year old on christmas day, loves the more contemporary stuff like fimbles, tweenies and teletubbies but he even loves Charley the cat and button moon. I play him Charley the Cat on my real player and he smiles and laughs. Timeless stuff.

Catweazle
Tomorrow People
How!
Black Beauty :o
Michael Bentine's Potty Time
Crackerjack
The Double Deckers
The Banana Splits - altogether now "na na na, nananana, na na na, nananana" :D
