Good choices - I like Gabriel's The Passion too, which scored The Last Temptation Of Christ

I think the opening sequence of Birdy with the music is stunning.

Fantasia

There's been a lot of good punk films with cracking soundtracks - D.O.A etc.

Has anyone seen Made In England or whatever that new skinhead film is called??

There's also Bird - film about Charlie Parker.

morricone's work with leone produced some of the greatest numbers in soundtrack history, but I can't listen to the whole albums as music: they work as a soundtrack...

my favourite soundtracks as albums are:

queen - flash gordon
moroder - midnight express
james brown - black ceasar
isaac hayes - shaft (if only for the epic 'do your thing')

Excellent choice! I love that soundtrack.

I'm a big spaghetti fan so it goes without saying Morricone's work with Leone but I'd also give a shout for his soundtrack on The Big Gundown and The Great Silence (did anyone catch that on Film4 last night?).

I've also been watching a fair few Pinky Violence films lately and they've got some cool soundtracks with catchy songs. The Sex & Fury soundtrack is superb. :)

i have the Trojan compilation The Big Gundown - reggae inspired by Spaghetti Westerns which is brill & presumably you've got?? cos there's a few tracks with Django in the title!
The guy who compiled it was on resonance fm when it was released & these are the sleeve notes:
'Of all the cinematic genres, it was the Hollywood Westerns that captured the imaginations of young Jamaicans the most, & the island's record producers were quick to cash in with ska classics such as 'Gun Fever' & 'Lawless Street'. However in the mid-sixties, Italian film diirectors such as Sergio Leone, Sergio Corbucci, Sergio Sallima & Duccio Tessari - all big western fans from boyhood - deconstructed their favourite film genre & invested it with a new realism, & so the Italian Westerns took on their own identity. The concentration on facial expressions, the grit, the dirt, the scenery, & above all the relentless, merciless violence made a huge impression on cinema audiences world-wide, & especially in Jamaica, where, as legend has it, they were eventually banned as a response to local rude boys joining in the gunplay & shooting at the screens! Thirty-oddd years later, it's hard to establish the real truth of this tale but it's not too difficult to believe given the appeal of the films & the audience they were aimed at.'

Anway, not film soundtracks, but homages to Spag Westerns; music inspired by films.

Yeah I've got it and love it. :) First proper introduction to reggae / ska stuff after The Harder They Come (Jimmy Cliff watches Django at the Railto in t :D). Really must dig deeper. I think one of the tracks off that comp crop on the This is England soundtrack.

mad how the ska tunes don't sample film music e.g ennio morricone etc but instead (often wrongly!!) use quotes from spag westerns!
yeah, Jimmy C connnection is a good one
I lied about going to see This is Engand yesterday, will go when I'm not skint

Don't know about favourite. Just ordered The Repo Man soundtrack on US import. Been a few years since I've seen the film and have been after the soundtrack since.

Was listening to the Blade Runner ST last night, which I still think's pretty cool.
