Fave 'Foreign' Team?

The Biancocelesti, Società Sportiva Lazio.

Started off with Gazza and Football Italia on C4, then I just became gradually more interested in the club and their supporters as the years went on. That BBC documentary about 4 years ago really made me want to go to Rome to witness the passion firsthand, and I finally got there in January 2005. The Rome Derby really must be seen to be believed. Seen them a couple more times since then, and I'll be out there for the Derby at the end of the month. Rome is an amazing city, and Lazio are a good excuse to get over there two or three times a year.

Oh yes, and Paolo Di Canio is one of my favourite players ever, I don't give a fuck what anyone thinks of his politics.

A Roma la Lazio C'è solo la Lazio!

I don't get all the Barca love...i mean we're a great team, but just because you like the city, why like the team? Abnd laothugh the canary fan above is just bitter ;) he's right the Camp Nou is in a shite location. I think some people like the idea of the club - the pride of the fans, how it represents soemthing more than football, and is owned by the people.

But some of it's romanticised bollocks...even Barca fans know that :D

don't really have one although St. Pauli in Germany are really interesting, but I don't follow them as such.

I agree with G Force about the Barcelona thing and there was a time when i really 'tried' to like them. Visited the city. Fantastic. Visited the stadium. Fantastic. Visited the museum. Fantastic (despite lack of European Cups :p ). Style of football played. Fantastic. Players they've had/have. Fantastic. No shirt sponsors etc. Fantastic.

but, nope, still can't like them, although as opposed to last year I hope they crush Chelsea in Europe :)

espanyol. the other spanish side. nothing like as much of a soap opera and not even half as whinging as the blaugrauna.

how do you justify supporting fcbarcleno by the fact it is in an amazing city? the suburb the nou camp is in is a shithole.

i was there this weekend. it's not a shithole

compared to other parts of Barcelona, yes it is.

true, but it's certainly not a shithole in a general sense. i thought it was quite pleasant. although i did come in from the les corts side.

the complex itself is pretty ugly...

athletic bilbao cos of their refusal to play non-basque players, the sense of community and that my mate lives there and was married to a basque woman for a while. I've been there a couple of times and it's always been good, if slightly mental.

botafogo - purely because of garrincha.

Are they filthy communists?? :p :D ( )

I'd heard Fiorentina also had a leftie following, but I don't really know!

When I went to Fiore the banners seemed pretty leftist to me, but many Italian clubs have both left and right-wing groups. This is quite an interesting map showing the political leanings of Italian supporters' groups (Destra = Right, Sinistra = Left). Not sure how up-to-date or accurate it is though.

not if chelsea manage to sign david villa before next week. :)
So tell me why exactley investing in a gay village is going to help Chelski...eh?? ;)

About Villa David in Vallarta
Villa David Bed and Breakfast is the only gay (Men Only) clothing optional Guest House centrally located in an authentic Mexican neighborhood within easy walking distance of all the finest attractions of Puerto Vallarta Mexico. The old world hacienda style mansion is built around a central courtyard in the area called gringo gulch. The house is on the hillside overlooking the beautiful Bay of Banderas and built in the open-air style to catch every mountain and bay breeze. Our main entrance is on Calle Galeana #348, the balconies of the bedrooms are over Calle Miramar to the west and Calle Emilio Carranza to the east.

Bayern Munich when i was very young. Probably because of their 3 Euro Cup wins in a row but i also always liked their strip. Have always liked Ajax for their style of play.

My favourite foreign teams

Italy - AC Cessna (who are in Serie B) and Chievo Verona, although i still quite like AC Milan ; Not because of Tonee Blair's mates who owns the club, not forgetting Italy's primo gimp of a minister i.e. Silvio Berlusconi

Germany - FC St Pauli, i'd like to see them back in the Bundesliga.

Spain - Barca, although i quite like Athletic Bilbao and their ethos of Basque only players and their stadium the San Mames is cool i.e. very British in it's design  . Alaves is another Basque team that i like, even though they are going to get relegated back to La Segundo (The second divsion)

France - LOSC Lille an underdog who are doing well and punching above their weight in Le Championat. Although i've got a soft spot for Le Vertes i.e. St Ettiene after their recent problems financially a few years ago, they got demoted to the 3rd or tier of French football.

St Pauli for political reasons mostly, Barca for football reasons mostly :)

A mate of mine went to St Pauli a couple of weeks ago, he said it was like going to football in the 80s. He said the leftie thing wasn't all that obvious, apart from a few punks in the crowd and quite a lot of Celtic fans.

I like all basque clubs - their fans are fantastic - they treat the Barca fans to plenty of stick, but it's all good-natured. EJ's right the Bilbao stadium is really nice. great atmosphere...definitely one to visit if you can :)

I have a mate who spends a lot of time in Hamburg, and he's been to a fair few matches. He says the leftie (or not) thing varies wildly from match to match depending on opponents etc.

I have yet to visit Germany, but if I do, I intend to see St Pauli play! :)

Quite hard to read!!

Cheers though ... will try printing it later, see if that helps. If all else fails we have a photocopier in the office that expands stuff.

Probably Ajax, mostly because of the way they've gone about establishing a legacy of competing with and often beating the clubs who could buy them several times over, right the way from Michels, Cruyff and Neeskens, through Gullit, Riijkard and Van Basten, to Kluivert, Seedorf, Davids and Litmanen. I'd definitley make an effort to see them if I was in Amsterdam.

Outside football, I've followed the Boston Red Sox mainly because when I got into baseball they were the perpetual underdogs to their Yankee neighbours. I saw them play in NYC on July 4th 3 years ago and the BoSox won. :)

Dukla Prague, 'cos of the song. We played them in a pre-season once. They played in yellow.
Used to follow Celtic but I can't be fucked with them anymore for a variety of reasons, Queens Park and Stenhousemuir I like regardless of politics (if there is any).

Thats a great reason... no really it is..... NOT

I find it an admiral trait developing home grown Basque players in this day and age when it is a hindrance to them as they are limited to a small pool of potential players(especially in that they maywell be relegated for the first time this season :( ). But most Athletic fans would prefer to see this policy maintained even if it makes it difficult for them to compete with other teams.

I used to pay attention to leagues around the world and used to pick teams to support on the basis of liking their names.

Willem II - Holland
Destroyers, The Strongest - Bolivia
Everton - Chile
Corinthians - Brazil
Burnt Island Shipyard - Scotland
Pretoria Sundowns, Kaiser Chiefs - South Africa
Young Boys of Berne, Grasshoppers - Switzerland
