Splodgenessabounds.
Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps please.
Interesting fact #1.

Splodgenessabounds were (are) from my manor, and the original female singer, Baby Greensleeves lived down my road and babysitted me when I was a nipper.

The cool Sheila chicks?

I didn't see any of them in the ad...

Did they have more hits than just that one?

Yes they did, including another No. 1; "Baby Jump".

The guy who wrote "In The Summertime", Ray Dorset, had the luck to see it taken up by a major UK bank as part of one of their TV ads.

Largely as a result, he said that song has provided him with a significant income for life (and his children the same), though he still tours with a jug band.

Nice work if you can get it.

I can't possibly rate this track so much after finding out that the backing is basically completely lifted - I forget the name of the track/artist - but that was where the credit is deserved IMHO.

'Anal Hamster Paradise'

Poove doo-dahs or summat.

They sampled a collierymans' band from the 20's, and eventually the trumpet player was tracked down.

Said 'Aye good luck to the lads. I never made owt. An' I'm too old to spend it now'

I never saw this response before the thread was bumped and now he's gone.
Riddim fail

Nope - They had two singles and an album that charted in the UK. I remember the second single did horrify many people with its wantonly open display of armpit hair in the video. Such was the 80s! :D
Nah, there were a couple of other singles, only one charted, but it didn't get to the top 40 to qualify as a hit.
