ashford and simpson were massively successful songwriters, and turned in many years of 'solid' (lol) performance on the disco scene... they wrote 'aint no mountain high enough' & 'california soul' for a start...

the best i can google says that "let her go" only got somewhere around number 40. I wouldn't call that a hit.

I guess we have differing ideas of "one hit". I didn't realise there were all these t&c which apply.

I thought it was bands who had a hit, then were never heard of again.

i also like "Driver seat" sniff n the tears - although i don't think it was even a hit, it was played a lot on the radio when it came out in about 78

The Bluebells were originally, allegedly, a pub rock band called 'The Electric Bluebirds' ex members of the 'Fabulous Poodles' and others.

Legend has it that a girl in the Dublin Castle*saw them one night, and said 'If I ever get that job in marketing (For VW)- those cunts are on the first Golf advert I do'- and they were.
