Ashford and Simpson - Solid

Actually looking at that fine list I am amazed that none of them had more success than they did.....
ashford and simpson were massively successful songwriters, and turned in many years of 'solid' (lol) performance on the disco scene... they wrote 'aint no mountain high enough' & 'california soul' for a start...

Genius of Love was also a hit.
Not in this country, but in the USA. That was a OHW there, and Wordy Rappinghood was here. Are Tom Tom Club the only band to be one hit wonders in different coutries with different records?

I prefer 'Let her go', that was still a 'hit'. Hold on that means 'since yesterday' wasn't a one hit wonder. Cheater.
the best i can google says that "let her go" only got somewhere around number 40. I wouldn't call that a hit.

Babylon Zoo- Space Man
Buggles- Video Killed the Radio Star
An Emotional Fish- Celebrate (brillant track, but barely even a one hit wonder)
Bell Biv Devoe- Poison (who says all R&B is crap)
The Knack- My Sharona
Thunderclap Newman- Something in the air
Mock Turtles- Can you dig it
Journey -Don't stop beliveing
Chumabwamba- Tubthumping (lots of minor hits so maybe doesn't count)

and really pushing my luck

Creedence Clearwater Revival- Bad Moon Rising (millions of hits in the USA of course)

I guess we have differing ideas of "one hit". I didn't realise there were all these t&c which apply.

I thought it was bands who had a hit, then were never heard of again.

i also like "Driver seat" sniff n the tears - although i don't think it was even a hit, it was played a lot on the radio when it came out in about 78
A great tune. Used brilliantly in Boogie Nights IIRC

the bluebells-young at heart

Stratford Johns in the video- Class.

The Bluebells were originally, allegedly, a pub rock band called 'The Electric Bluebirds' ex members of the 'Fabulous Poodles' and others.

Legend has it that a girl in the Dublin Castle*saw them one night, and said 'If I ever get that job in marketing (For VW)- those cunts are on the first Golf advert I do'- and they were.

* Camden Town.

Oh, it was Bobby Valentino on violin.

He has been known to play with Hank Wangford.

Less said about that the better. Probably better known for his association with B.J. Cole- AKA 'Manly Footwear'. Sometime pedal steel with Alabama3.

Gawd. Something had to replace the trainspotting....

Diggin your scene - The Blow Monkeys (excellent album)
Story of the blues - Wah

I want an album compiled of the songs on this thread

Cliff Richard and the Drifters. Move It!

Fabulous rock n roll hit but then sadly the day of it's release Cliff walked in front of a lorry and was strawberry jam.

I wonder what great songs he would have gone on to record if this terrible accident had never happened? They had him down as the British Elvis you know?

Splodgenessabounds.
Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps please.

It's not my favourite though. I prefer Babylon Zoo (who did have a follow up minor hit though) and Buggles (ditto) and The Knack.

But better still Monster Mash by Bobby 'Boris' Pickett. :)
