Fash watch thread

BBC currently reporting they have won 29 wards so far, a gain of 11 in total
which despite their losses and failure to gain in some area, could be far worse

total of 3 gains confirmed in Stoke

interestingly, they failed to clear 5% in any of the 3 council by elections in london yesterday- but beat Respect and Left list in Millwall

wasnt aware there were any, where else were there

What wards this - where are you getting the ward by ward breakdown.

I was surprised to see no fash on my Sheffield Central ward paper yesterday.

aah, take it you've seen the results now. They did well n Firth Park & Southey. No way they would stand in central, its all students, a few yuppies, and some asians. Not good territory for them.

BNP take out Labour Leader for second year on trot in Stoke.

Tappin's a prize twat, mildly racist and thoroughly misogynist. I don't want the BNP in, but on a personal level, it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy :p

(He teaches my course at uni. He's an 'expert' in American elections. 2 years ago he got us doing this role play bollocks where we had to stand 2 people for the US Dem. race for President. We stood Hillary and Barack. Barack was my choice. Tappin had never heard of him. I felt so smug printing some stuff off the internet about him for him. Knob.)

Some good news, BNP appear to have bombed in Wales. Wrexham and Flintshire candidates were nearly all bottom. In Swansea they did better beating the Tories a few times, but no councillors anywhere. Just waiting for Carmarthenshire as well.

Looking through all of Stoke's wards that have declared, and even when not elected, the BNP have done very well.

Labour have come last in several wards.

My ward went to the Lib Dems.

I think Stoke is a real danger spot and needs a close eye kept upon it

Strrange that the Hope Not Hate site has absolutely no mention of Sheffield on it. Or, not that strange, as Searchlight detest the Sheffield UAFers, and the feeling is quite mutual. They (Searchlight) used to make a big thing about criticising the Sheffield campaign, but then realised they looked complete knobs considering the BNP didn't come close to ever wining a seat.

In most of their Wrexham wards they got less than 100 votes! One or two of them were somewhere around the 250 mark but they didn't come remotely close. Same for Flintshire. I can't access Conwy's results so don't know about that.

Swansea was more worrying but realistically nowhere close to them winning.

Welsh county councils= fascist free zones.

Up 13 down 3 i make it. So a gain of 10 so far. I said between 10-15 gains myself (and opne GLa seat). I think we need to wait and see the total votes across the board before jumping to any conclusions.

That's standing still - overall their vote is down - year on year.:D And that is very good news. You shouldn't have swallowed the Red ACtion/IWCA crap.:D

comparing their success in rotherham with lack of success in thurrock i would reckon they overexerted themsleves in thurrock .. as scifisam's post shows ( and as does all the research they do best when the concentrate on cuddling up ..

Nah, they gained a seat in Thurrock this time (in Tilbury), but that means they must have previously lost the BNP candidate who won in Grays Riverside when I lived there. They certainly don't seem to have any staying power.

@Attica: how is 10-15 more seats 'standing still?'

a drop in the overall vote, but a significant presence in more area's. it's a continuation of what has happened in the last couple of years. they are extending their base to cover more of the country, and never really had any hope (or desire i imagine) to actually run a council. awaiting the imminent collapse of multi-culturalist capitalism when they will bravely step into the breach

Although they haven't won any seats in Leeds, it looks like they've got over 22,000 votes and over 10% of the vote.

They won Grays Riverside in a by-election and lost it the very next election after a mass leafletting campaign and crass stupidity in the council chamber.

Basically the story went like this (from memory):

The first response of the Tories and LP was to unite in supporting a motion condemning the BNP. The Tory leader who was Jewish spoke on it. However, whilst the motion was a condemnation of the BNP the only agreed action was to fly the union flag above the council chamber from that day on (reclaiming from the fash). The BNP response was to pack the gallery with thugs and shout and holler abuse obtaining just the publicity they didn't want. Instead they should have calmly ignored the verbal attacks and claimed credit for the decision to fly the flag.

The second response of the Tories was to attack the then LP council by pandering to the racist vote. They accused the LP of hiding the real figure of asylum seekers in the borough. The LP response was to immediately release the figures which were available to anyone who asked. The number was something less than double figures - in the whole borough. The BNP councilor being rendered speachless. He was an inarticulate Italian immigrant with not an ounce of sense. The next election they stood in two wards with same chap and a stronger candidate but every house was leafleted and they didn't get either seat. Grays Riverside was not one of their better results yesterday either.

Because out of a grand total of 20K council seats 10-15 statistically is NOTHING. Going nowhere ever numbers, especially when combined with a national drop in their percentage vote down to 13% (and still falling).:D
