Farewell, then, sub £1 a litre fuel :(

Your whole point could apply to any part of modern society where something new has come along and forced people along with it.

Well no.

I mean obviously new technology drives out old; telephones saw off telegrams, but what's zero-sum about telephones? They're rather the opposite, the more people have them the more useful they are, the more general they are the greater the sum of "freedom" they confer.

My point about cars is that the more freedom they give to some, the more they take it away from others.

But for what it's worth I'm generally against people being "forced" to do things, although the way you use the term you make it sound as if it's some law of nature over which we have no control. Forcing is usually a political choice.

To be honest I think a significant proportion of car-addicts are functional agoraphobics. I have certainly known some people who "can't go out, the cars broken down", and they really mean it.

For others, it's either genuine arrogance - when they talk of "personal freedom" they mean their own personal freedom and they really don't give a crap about anyone elses, or it's a series of unwitting assumptions that amount to arrogance; the belief that car-ownership is 'normal' and never requires justification - indeed that to question that assumption is taboo. Certainly some people dissolve into over-emotional eactions very rapidly when they are questioned about their driving.

You're the arrogant one.

I expect I will soon be posting to say 'farewell then, sub £1.20 a litre fuel". But before I do, a quick prediction from the Economist review of the year(p122)- Oil prices for 2011 will average $76 a barrel and $81 in 2012- well below current levels.

We shall see if they are right- I don't think they will be, but we shall see.

What's changed though? I see no evidence that you're not the same pathetically self-centred racist, sorry let's split hairs and say xenophobic, twat.

Unpleasant really, but there you go.

Of course chap. Full of festive beans (and rum) me. Having a fine old day

Bygones can be bygones, but let's not pretend that this goon is ever anything but blinkered, selfish and unpleasant. Call me the ghost of Christmas present if you prefer - I'm getting all Dickensian.

OIL has gone up because of whats going on in Egypt I shit you not, those economic sharks were circling as soon as the first protester left home for the protest. Fuck oil, my car runs on Lard and the exhaust is the smell of fish and chips.
