faredodgin'

why dont they make the fine £100 then to really put people off?
The higher the fine, the more mob-handed you need to be. One or two inspectors on their own could not enforce a system with big fines – they'd be put in physical danger. The choice is often and small or rarely and big – but rarely and big needs a lot of inspectors, coppers, the works.

because as it stands the risk of gettin a £20 fine for roughly the same price of a ticket, well, its a no brainer as they say. you could afford to get caught once every 2 days and still be up.
A bus fare is currently £1.20.

i did the reverse of fare dodging last week, bought a weekly travel card, and lost it within an hour, so had to buy another one (although I did drive in for a few days instead, and delayed buying another one because I couldn't face doing it) so some punter on a bus, found my card, and had a week's free travel

In the interests of being a bit pikey I'm wondering if all you need is a visible oyster card and pretend to touch it and then just walk through behind a sort or any fucker at all ? Could you do that and use the savings for your tinnies ?

I've always wondered if I could go 'beep!' with a blank card. Just for the hustle

As someone who does actually pay on a bendy bus..I do think the repeat offence fine should be much much higher. £20 first time, ok maybe one I might forget my card, but people who are given 2 or 3 tickets, for the third ticket, it should be £1500 or something.

You'd need a system that could recognise that it was dealing with someone who'd done it before, though.

I reckon it must be possible to faredodge on a bendy bus. Just get on via the middle doors and sit or stand near the swiper in case a fare inspector gets on and then 19 times out of 20 just get off whenever.

I had hundreds of inspectors swarm on at the stop I was getting off at. They checked my card. "Did I remember?" I asked as they were checking. "You remembered.... just now!" one said, as if I'd been doing the cheat you suggest, which I think a few people rushed to do. I was really irked because I touched in at the start! :(

Now I'm thinking so long as you have an oyster card with credit on your person you have two seconds to steam in behind a sort like you're a man on a mission job's a goodun ?

I know a couple of people who had to pay £400 or so fines. That was because they'd been charged £20 and not paid it for a long time.

Why doesn't everyone cycle everywhere, and live nearer the places they have to go?

Because they work in Mayfair for £200 pw and live in a bedsit in Tottenham that costs £90 for example. If they stay in for a few months they could save about 80 sobs and then it's christmas or some fucker's birthday you doughnut ?

Well, not an impossible journey....

Governments allow train companies to raise fares as part of their franchise agreement.

Train Companies donate shitloads of cash to Political Parties. Rermember Scotland were going to renationalise recently, then Brian (Stagecoach) Souter gave Alex Salmond £1 million and that idea went away mysteriously. Nick Clegg wouldn't renationalise either has he's been stitched up too. Moir (Firstgroup) Lockheed is a personal mate of Gordon Brown

If you want cheaper public transport, then there has to be a proper protest movement that can dent private profits and not make the issue go away easily. Perhaps a working from home movement thats a co-ordinated thing. If you do a 4 day week they are 20% down on their money for example.

Trouble is the English are too polite a race. The Islington Elite run the media and the concerns of the ordinary citizen are no longer mentioned.

When I first moved in to my house money was tight and the train fare was £170 a month. I bunked it for nearly 2 years.

Not a statement against anything, just a bit pikey really.
