faredodgin'

All that anyone needs to understand is:

The end cost of a service is totally and utterly unrelated* to the cost of providing it, therefore not paying for stuff is OK

*Except if it's a corner shop or something, when it's all different like.

I don't pay if I don't think it's worth it. Got the 149 up the hill from Tottenham Tescos but I still have to walk more than half the way home (or get another bus) so doesn't feel like a quid's worth to me. Plus the chances of getting inspected over three stops are pretty low so fuck it, I've paid LT thousands over the years.

Be careful because apparently on bendy buses, they switch off the Oyster machines just before inspectors get on so they can catch people out.

Although ive been on a bendy bus that got raided, 15people went through the emergency exit. :-)

No they don't.

there's nothing wrong with faredodging if you are skint and you it's not possible to walk or get a bike

but a couple of the posts on here have a tone of being proud about it as if it's some sort of protest. it isn't, you're just being a bit pikey

there definetely needs to be something done about the price of public transport, it's fucking ridiculous, the reason they built all that infrastructure was for the sake of the public, not for people to make money off it like it is now

but pretending you are doing something about it by faredodging is a bit fucking pathetic.

That, mostly.

isitme having that once a year "the voice of reason" clarity moment. :D

Good stealing: You can't see who you are stealing from.
Bad stealing: You can.

;)

Stealing harms our society.

Personally I don't like our society and I won't help those who feed upon its failed ideologies whenever it can be avoided.

So Fairdodge twitter community will be up and running shortly.

So did someone actually start a twitter group for this?

I suggested something similar on another thread - a website where you could SMS deets of which stations the RPOs were at...

Let us know when it's up and running. I will have no end of fun watching people on my train panic when I send in false reports.

Thank you for your time thinking in about the service quality of our new faredodging twitter community group.

The issue did of couse already occur me and false reports certainly are a concern.

However there are ways to counteract the problem.

1.) Only act on tweets from respected sources (namely members of the community who have previously given vaildated reports)

2.) Photos of the guards submitted with the tweets, through the modern technology of phonecamera wizzardry.

3.) A stasi type level of censorship by me of all and anyone who doesnt keep me amused.

i wonder if inspectors catch enough people to cover their costs and wages? im guessing they must have to get 1-1.5 persons/hour to justify themselves

I reckon it must be possible to faredodge on a bendy bus. Just get on via the middle doors and sit or stand near the swiper in case a fare inspector gets on and then 19 times out of 20 just get off whenever.

Nah, the actual number they catch is fairly irrelevant. Their most important task is to be there, showing people that they could get caught if they don't buy a ticket.

There are two approaches to this, broadly: appear very rarely, but impose huge penalties – big fine, criminal record (the approach in many European countries, Belgium, for instance); or appear regularly and impose relatively small penalties (the approach in London). Both work, in that they get the majority of the people who might otherwise consider not paying to pay.

why dont they make the fine £100 then to really put people off? because as it stands the risk of gettin a £20 fine for roughly the same price of a ticket, well, its a no brainer as they say. you could afford to get caught once every 2 days and still be up.

As someone who does actually pay on a bendy bus..I do think the repeat offence fine should be much much higher. £20 first time, ok maybe one I might forget my card, but people who are given 2 or 3 tickets, for the third ticket, it should be £1500 or something.
