Question Fan keeps coming on and processor 100% spikes

Hi FF and Corax

I checked my language settings using the instructions provided and it is set to UK.
When I hold shift + 3, I get a # instead of the pound sign.
If I need to type a pound sign, I go to my onscreen keyboard but its a bit of a faff.
What with an @ when I hit shift and 2, and a " when I hit the @ button, it's all a bit confusing.
Thanks for the link and thanks for the instructions anyway to enable me to check my language settings.
The image you posted at the top of this page shows that you have your keyboard set to US. Look at the taskbar next to the clock - It says ENG US.

Hi

I changed it since then because I was sick of it not recognising words we spell different over here, a bit like the software on this site, with its big red lines.

There is no software on this site that provides spell checking. That is a function of your browser.

If you are still getting the wrong characters e.g # instead of £ when you use "shift 3" then you do not have your keyboard set to UK. If you are still having problems, then have a look here:

Hi

Sorry I am now getting the right symbols for the right keys.
Maybe I put it back on US by accident and didn't realise.
I have a touch screen and am always unadvertently changing the settings.
I appreciate your help though.

Hi panpete, just want to reassure you that everything looks normal - the temps you posted up are quite low and nothing to worry about at all. With the temps you posted, when you hear the fans working it is because they are doing their job well.

It's always a good idea to monitor the temperatures of your components, but you really don't need to worry unless anything hits 80+ and it seems as though everything is currently working well and being sufficiently cooled :) Be sure not to put your laptop on anything like a cushion that will act as insulation.

Hi Epona, thanks

I already killed one laptop by sitting it on my lap.
I only had it 18mths.
I've deffo learnt my lesson not to do that again.
I have a nice big tray now between my lap and the computer.

Hi

Sorry I need your help again.
I just found out that even though I have set my computer to UK, it keeps reverting back to US every time I log back in, even after following those instructions.
On the languages setting on my computer, it said there was a UK language pack available for download, so I downloaded this. (a windows update)
For some reason it would not install, it just gave me a notice saying the update wasn't installed without giving me a reason why.

Sorry to bother you again but please can you help.

Thanks

You can try the instructions provided in the answer given here:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com...ard-keep-reverting-to-us?forum=w8itprogeneral

If that doesn't work, then you probably need to contact your computer's manufacturer.

Hi

IT seems a hassle to contact the manufacturer, so I would rather try and avoid that.
I followed the instructions on the link above but got stuck.
I dunno what it means by the following:

1.Move up English(United Kingdom) to the top.

2.Remove English(United States

Also, on the Format tab, it has a drop down box with all the languages, should I select english UK even though it recommends selecting 'match windows display'. I set it to english UK but changed my mind.

Thanks

Can you make sense of what those instructions mean copied above?
They don't seem really clear cos i dunno what they mean by 'move up' and remove.
Thanks

I can only imagine by "move up" that they mean drag the entry to the top of the list. As for "remove", try right-clicking on the entry, and see if there is an option to remove it. I don't have Windows 8 on my computer, and my wife (who does have Windows 8 on her machine) is busy. so I can't check.
