Famous people who don't exist

Fucks this then ?

The whole thing basically hinged on a 'comma' in the opening;

"you, are number six."

"you are, number six."

That said, it was the prisoner and he might as well have been fred dineage.

Damn, I was going to say Maris, I was surprised she hadn't been mentioned in this thread..:p

see now, bizarrely, I think Maris does appear in one of the episodes. Or at least I have a picture in my head of what she looks like.

Bear with me, I'll check.

It would seem I am just getting confused....

I think you've missed the point there :D
But its just to easy to rattle off made up characters from tv programs and books. IMO, zoltans69's one is the best so far as its someone people thought was actually real who never was.

you haven't got the rules.

the thread title is a bit misleading. the game is actually "people who are referred to in plays / films / tv shows but are never actually seen."

for example... maris crane from frazier or "'er indoors" from Minder. or Godot.

The thing is, I get the Holmes books and the radio plays muddled

where are the radio plays played?
are they available on cd, or downloads - podcasts or for long car journeys where there is jack on the radio?

p.s. back to the thread, i cannae think of anyone, 'cept maybe the really evil presence in the last couple of episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who they all refered to as something like "original evil"

Dromio's wife in Comedy of Errors:

ANTIPHOLUS OF SYRACUSE
What is she?

DROMIO OF SYRACUSE
A very reverent body; ay, such a one as a man may
not speak of without he say 'Sir-reverence.' I have
but lean luck in the match, and yet is she a
wondrous fat marriage.

ANTIPHOLUS OF SYRACUSE
How dost thou mean a fat marriage?

DROMIO OF SYRACUSE
Marry, sir, she's the kitchen wench and all grease;
and I know not what use to put her to but to make a
lamp of her and run from her by her own light. I
warrant, her rags and the tallow in them will burn a
Poland winter: if she lives till doomsday,
she'll burn a week longer than the whole world.

ANTIPHOLUS OF SYRACUSE
What complexion is she of?

DROMIO OF SYRACUSE
Swart, like my shoe, but her face nothing half so
clean kept: for why, she sweats; a man may go over
shoes in the grime of it.

ANTIPHOLUS OF SYRACUSE
That's a fault that water will mend.

DROMIO OF SYRACUSE
No, sir, 'tis in grain; Noah's flood could not do it.

AND SO FORTH...

There must be loads of others in Shakespeare. Doesn't Speed have a mother he discusses in Two Gentlemen of Verona?

I think Maris appeared in Frasier at some point too...

Saw that at the Globe recently & laughed till I cried...

The gardener in Bill and Ben and someone in Andy Pandy that always made the toys get into a panic and race to get into the basket. Wonder why they were so scary, (child protection alert ).

Sorry for all of you too young to remember the above.:p ;)

but you don't ever see his face so he is still somewhat of a mystery character.

Sorry, it can't be allowed ;)

If you allow that, then that's like saying Darth Vader doesn't appear in the first two Star Wars.

Regarding Mrs Columbo: Her from the TV show was actually NOT the wife of Columbo the detective. See the Wikipedia link from earlier as to why.

I've not seen series 2 or Fire Walk With Me yet, but Dianne, the secretary of Agent Cooper in Twin Peaks.
