Family Guy

The film's pretty good. Some of the cultural references in the TV show are lost on me.
This is true. I find it funny, but would enjoy it even more if I was American and got all the references.

I've got all the previous series and one-offs on DVD but it's all starting to wear a bit thin really on this latest run. Like the Simpsons when they discovered that the star (Bart) was a pile of shit and made Homer the central charcater, FG has kind of dumped Peter and instated the comedy duo of Brian and Stewie as the main characters. But it's too late. The show has had it's time and if people have just tuned into it recently I can easily see why they think it's crap compared to South Park and, lest we forget, King Of the Hill.

Mind you, the episode where Brian becomes addicted to coke will always be one of my all time faves.

Yeah, very funny. :D

That was the first episode I ever saw. :)

I love Brian. I also like the recent one where Stewie beats the shit out of him for not paying up a gambling debt. I really felt for him when he got set on fire and then realised he was just a cartoon dog but I did really want the punishment to stop cos Brian is ace.

I'm a huge fan of the first 3 (or is it 4?) series, but the ones they've been showing on BBC recently have left me rather disappointed.

Yeah, I've seen the South Park critique of FG and I agree that the concept as a whole doesn't take a whole amount of talent - I do however find the script and characterisation very funny and well written. Stewie and Brian rawk, as does Quagmire.

And yes, I do find some of the random elements funny. But the recent shows seem to contain references that I haven't heard of - mentions of US TV stars isn't the way to foster a worldwide audience.

The random bits is what makes Family Guy.

Like where Chris falls into the fridge and into the pencil drawn Ah-ha video.

:D

And where stewie starts the show asking Brian if he's got his money.....

:D x10000

*edit - shit, been mentioned already. Proves its fucking hilarious though :D

first one i ever saw was when i was in amsterdam stoned off of me tits, and the one with stewie and the broccoli came on.

i laughed until i nearly puked.

stewie ftw!

Quagmire.

Yeah he does have his moments as does Peter's other mates down the Drunken Clam but Quag ain't as funny as Boomhauer out of KOTH. Come to think of it all Peter's friends are poor second cousins to hank Hill's possee of loser mates.

Cartman: [gets off his Big Wheels, his anger sudden and strong, and walks up to Kyle] Don't you EVER, EVER, compare me to Family Guy! You hear me Kyle??!! Compare me to Family Guy again, and so help me I will kill you where you stand! [turns and goes back to his Big Wheels]

Kyle: [realizes Cartman's true intent] You unbelievable son of a bitch. You never cared about the Muslim religion. Or the safety of people in America. You just want Family Guy off the air!

Cartman: Do you have any idea what it's like?! Everywhere I go, "Hey Cartman, you must like Family Guy, right?" "Hey, your sense of humor reminds me of Family Guy, Cartman." [turns and faces Kyle] I am NOTHING like Family Guy! When I make jokes, they are inherent to a story! Deep, situational and emotional jokes based on what is relevant and has a POINT! Not just one interchangeable joke after another!!

as funny as dying.

I think it's the best animated comedy on tv right now.

If you think FG is better than South Park then you are crazy man!

Family Guy is great but it's been going downhill since season 3, still worth a few laughs though.

ETA:Peter is the best character by miles.

I'd have to agree...! After havig watched the entirity of SP over the last few months (only having caught the occasional episode before), I have to say I've rarely seen a comedy cartoon that can be so consistenly amusing, satirical and just damned great! :D The underlying premise of the series - that adults are a bunch of sheeple and it takes the uncluttered perspective of a child to show up the stupidity of the societies we live in - is brilliantly executed throughout.

I must have nearly pissed myself watching AWESOME-O and Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset.

Imo, south park has gone downhill, it's a bit too much on the preachy side, and it hits you over the head with its obviousness. Not to say that it can't be funny, but it isn't as fast moving, not as likely to catch you off balance, like FG is.

I think it's utterly fantastic... it saddens me that anyone on here (apart from the usual suspects) would find it otherwise.
