Family Guy / South Park / Simpsons etc

Does no one remember Duckman?

Now that was a good cartoon.

Hell yeah. Although recently saw a few episodes again. Now being used to FG, SP etc, it seemd quite slow paced. Still good though and pretty hard to come by.

Southpark has with out doubt got better as it's matured. It's some of the best satire I've ever seen and still near the nuckle. Family Guy and American Dad are more straight wacky humour I'd say. Some of the references are lost on me.

Simpsons. Not sure why but I've rarely bothered watching the TV shows since they left BBC2. They seemed to be getting weaker and I can't stand Crusty the Clown. used to watch King of the Hill when on C4 years back. Thought it only mildly funny. Good to see Futurama might be coming back though. The setting gives it great scope for inventive new material.

Duckman! Haven't watched that years (probably whenever it was last on the telly). It was ace and probably my first introduction to adult orientated animation shows.

It was also Jason Alexander's finest role IMO.

KotH is a cartoon drama/soap opera with some seriously funny stuff in it. I haven't seen any since about S3, so have no idea what's happening to Hank & Co, but it was always more intelligent, and far more touching, then it's contemporaries (and given it's written by the guy who also wrote Beavis&Butthead (whom I worship) it was a surprise to say the least.

Simpsons...still battling on, with the occassional good ep...personally I think they'd do better to actually allow Bart, Lisa and Maggie to start growing up to bring some freshness into things, but that's me...

FG/AD...love them both, altho agree with the crits of FG - there has been too much singing and not enough Stewie for my liking...from what I've seen of AD it's funny, if a bit of a 1 trick pony...

Futurama...fucking genius, and I will laugh and shout and sing if it's really coming back

Soutpark...dl'ed S10&11 and spent 20 mins pissing myself watching 'Return of Chef' from his 'fruity little club'...still as funny as 'Cartman Gets and Anal Probe' all those years ago...

heh - Just finished the "ImaginationLand Trilogy" from the last season of Southpark...

:D

Good stuff.

The Flinstones stood the test of time far better.

I suppose if one was born in the 50's, one could find some amusement in the Flintstones as an adult.

I like AD, have both seasons on DVD but it doesn't compare to FG. Season 5 of FG found the show back on form, roll on 6!
 I bought season 6 on DVD about a month ago (here in Oz) ... I love the show. But I'm definetly completely simpsoned out, over here it has been running 5 day's a week on channel 10 at 7pm and I honestly can't stand the show anymore.

South Park was also a favourite but this crap about having to make a moral message or at least show both sides of the argument wears a bit thin.
I would take their earlier stuff over the later seasons any day. BEEFCAKKKEEE !!

Also bought a series of "Harvey Bird, man, Attorney at Law" the other week.

It's not great but does have it's moments.

If you don't know what it is, Harvey Birdman is a former super hero.
All the characters on the show and most of the people Birdman represents in court are old cartoon characters. IE. an episode where Scoobie Doo and his mate were arrested for smoking pot ... Or an episode where Fred Flinstone is a mafia Don ...
It has a great start where the Sopranos theme is played but with Fred Flinstone driving through Bedrock instead on Tony Soprano. :D

Got to add another vote for King of the Hill. I dunno why everyone panned it.
I remember recording a heap of King of the Hill episodes onto Video a few years ago and watched them quite a lot. Definetly not the worst cartoon (or TV series) I've seen!

Another cartoon that I used to watch regularly was "DR. Katz"... it came out much the same time as South Park and here in Oz it was shown on SBS back to back with SP. Haven't heard or seen anything of it since, except in the 6th series of Family Guy they had a referance to it. Peter Griffin is seeing his shrink (Dr. Katz) and say's to him "what the hell is wrong with your body... it's moving around all the time?" (a reference to the way the cartoon/animation used to shake around all the time) ...Dr. Katz replies .... "I've just had a stroke :) (or something like it)

Dr. Katz clips on YouTube

Duckman was utter genius, by far the best cartoon of its time... also, more than a few whole episodes have made their way onto youtube.

Family guy has shown signs of a return to form lately I reckon, and it does have a satirical streak (the 'veterans of future wars' bit in one of the recent episodes was fucking funny). South Park is more hit-and-miss than it used to be, but still comes up with some fucking funny stuff. The simpsons seems to have jumped the shark completely :(

Watched S10 of Southpark over the weekend. Cartman is still the greatest philosopher of all time - esp as Dawg, the Hall Monitor...Go with Christ my man.

Heh ks you're right about Cartman, he's the only reason I've ever watched the show. FG season 5 was pretty damn good, much better than 4, looking forward to getting 6 soon.

strangely enough, i really do not like Family Guy / South Park / Simpsons, i find them all intensely annoying and singularly un-funny, tho i love beavis and butthead and King of The Hill. Family Guy / South Park / Simpsons just seem very laboured to me, although i did finf the episode of south park when god came down to earth funny as fuck.
