Family Guy Fans: An Apology

Less funny than he used to be for sure (Chris has overtaken Stewie in the funny stakes I reckon).

But totally unfunny. Nah.

I'm just getting into it with the late-night repeats, can't believe what I've been missing. Chumbawumba got a mention last night!

American Dad is pretty good too.

I've only ever seen a few early episodes and absolutly loathed it, but maybe they have gotten better writers in since then. I still think it's incredibly ugly to look at and not in a a clever way like Beavis & Butthead or King of the Hill, just in a "these people really can't draw" sort of way.
Wrong. The drawings have got a lot better with every season. Season 4 actually contains some quite amazing animation imo.

Well done Dub for seeing the light.

Sorry, but the character designs are raping my eyes every time I look at them. Maybe it's because I'm an animator that I care about these things, but it all looks like some crappy 80's newspaper cartoon along the lines of Garfield.

...and why are the fathers testicles dangling from his chin ?

that was in American Dad, although Chumbawamba DO get a mention in another Family Guy when the Oompa Loompas are replaced with Chumba Wambas :)

As an animator you must be able to understand that simplicity and exageration or key tools of the trade in order to make characters funny whilst at the same time keeping costs down. Surely you would agree that the animation is no worse than the simpsons or Futurama? Or are you comparing it to the animations in The Lion King?

I'm not talking about the animation which is no better or worse than any other TV cartoon, I'm talking about the character designs and they are ugly as fuck. Matt Groening (The Simpsons, Futurama), John Kricfalusi (Ren & Stimpy) Genndy Tartakovsky (Power Puff Girls, Samurai Jack) have style. Family Guy looks like it was designed by a comittee.

Anyway I haven't seen it in a while and many people seem to love it so maybe it has become funnier, I just hate the way it looks.

I can understand that you think its ugly, I mean, thats a value judgement which there is no point in arguing about although I will say that I disagree with you. However, if you say he hasn't got 'style' like Groening then I would have to disagree with you. Take any frame from American Dad and Family Guy and put them next to each other and tell me that he hasn't got style. :p

Love it :D

But why on Earth would anyone fancy Lois? Leaving aside the fact that she's a cartoon character, she's not even that fit :p

Wasn't that impressed with American Dad. It's nowhere near as good as Family Guy.

That episode where the creepy old neighbour sings his song about Chris and how he yearns to be with him is really sad. Albeit distressingly so. Really distressing.
