Even decent ones will break after a while. I simply prefer manual ones. And of course with manual ones there is very little to go wrong.

I'd suggest getting a Robot Coupé. The advantage of the stainless steel compartment (3 litres!) is that you can purée and blend hot foods without waiting for the ingredients to cool. The basic unit isn't cheap, but well worth saving up for because they're utterly indestructable, even in heavy commercial use. You'll never have to replace it, ever. Many optional bells and whistles are available that expand its usefulness immensely.


@ Delia: I use canned chick peas for falafel and find they hold together just fine if you add an egg to the mixture.
