Earnest? Sensitive? Faith No More?

Are you sure you're not confusing them with someone else?

No. "Jizzlobber" is akin to "Pride and Prejudice" in the depth of its analysis of male/female relations.

Great band, though. I regret never having seen them live.

I'm sensing a lot of people on this thread never heard anything after Epic.

Frankly, King for a day and Album of the Year are two of my favourite albums by anyone ever, and this talk of possible reunion shows is making me damp.

King for a Day is amazing...
Shame the one after was utter shite.

I think Mike Patton is a genius. Big fan of Mr Bungle's Disco Volante.

I hear you, man, it's all about 'Angel Dust' onwards

can only remember one song, and not even sure it's by them, a chorus that went "we care a lot"
Wasn't that with a different singer? Not Mike Patton?

I really liked FNM at one point. They were pretty interesting musically and personally. Didn't they all hate the bassist for being a big metal goon? Big Jim or something. Then the drummer came out as gay at the height of fratboy metal when they were the darlings of Kerrang, supporting GnR etc. I also seem to remember a weird interview where Mike Patton was carrying a headless doll everywhere with him and shitting in hand-dryers or something

I saw them support GnR at Wembley & they were fantastic. Patton was a fucking loon.

I think Big Jim was the guitarist, that the rest of them took the piss out of. And it was the keyboard player who was gay - the magnificently named Roddy Bottum :D

That's it :D Nobody ever took the piss out of that name. Not in the notoriously homocentric world of METUL.

shit poll, to be honest. not an option I can tick

I've heard of them, like the odd track but don't like them overall, and I'm not dumb enough to lump them in with RHCP.

What should I vote?

Don't vote and bitch about the poll of course.

Polls aren't meant to be serious. They are just a conversation starter/troll.

"The Real Thing" is great IMO and I like what I've heard off the first album. I haven't been that taken with what I've heard from them since.

No mention that they are re-forming for Download this year?!!!

I'm so gutted that I can't make it. Woodpecker from Mars is one of my all time fav songs.

Not even remotely comparable to RHCP. FNM were interesting, leftfield, inventive... A true musical hotchpotch, more comparable with a white version of fishbone than the dullards or RHCP.

I loved them (and RHCP) as a kid. I'm actually visible for a full second and a half in the You Fat Bastard video. Mike Patton had a lot of range and talent but listening to them now his voice winds me up a bit. Chuck couldn't sing for toffee but his voice is interesting. I've still got the first three albums on my mp3 player and if I hit a song on random I'll generally listen if it's Chuck and skip it if it's Mike.

And RHCP weren't metal but they were always treated by the music press as if they were (ie. the NME wouldn't give them space but they'd make front page of Kerrang).

As mentioned on the first page, King For a Day is an interesting album which rewards repeated listening. The last 6-7 tracks are genius, although there is some stodge in the middle

I find The Real Thing really whiny sounding now but Angel Dust, Mr Bungle and Fantomas are still great imo. Just bought Tomahawk CD off eBay
