Facts about public transport in London

I just think the fares are expensive & could be halved. Apparently Buses carry 5.4 million passengers a day.. x that by 90 = 4.86 million pounds a day on bus journeys alone.. Thats a stack of cash.

Is the extent of your analysis "£4.86 million sounds like a big number, they could probably get by on half that amount"?

For starters, every passenger doesn't pay 90p. Many (over 60s, disabled, under 16) don't pay anything at all. As you've pointed out, a small % pay £2. Most are likely to be using some kind of season ticket where the cost per journey averages out less than 90p.

Then you haven't got the first idea on what the costs are.

Yes & No

I dont really care either.. I'm going home. All you lot are big know it alls! all trying to prove that the bus aint expensive .. well it is so there!!
Any how 90p is way more than a mars or snickers & thats a rip off.. ask any kid that.

:D Don't mess with the transport geeks!

back in the day I did used to walk home because the bus fare cost me the same as a choccy bar and I'd sooner have the choccy bar. It's sound financial reasoning

Oh, you mean about politicians facing prosecution for having to raise fares? Does Brian Paddick agree with you?

I think that there should actually be new legislation which makes it an imprisonable offence to make election promises verbally or written which you then cannot keep...

Fact no. 71569319:

TFL is overpriced.
Kids free.
OAPs free
90p for a bus ride for adults, cheapest in England I think.
TfL is the best thing to happen to London Transport since the GLC. Mayor Livingstone has his faults, but damn good for transport, and a socialist. Are there any other of the world's capital city mayors who use public transport?
It's the UK's train companies which are really overpriced.

i'll ask again please provide quotes and links to the place where i have said this don't attempt to portry your inferrences as my words. acutal quotes please of me saying precisely what you state i have...

Wow..

I should keep my views about london transport to myself i think..
Seems that alot folk on here get angry at the outragous idea that TFL could possibly be Overpriced... & That the manegerial staff & the Consultants they use may have a big reason for this..

I have no comparissons to give other than: riding my bicycle is cheaper to get across town than taking London transport..

So you don't know how much buses cost anywhere else, or how good the service is, but you know what you don't like?

For someone autistic, you don't half try and berate other people for your limitations.

I have absolutely no idea what you're going on about, as per usual.

I hope someone else can step in on your behalf.

Anyways, I'm off to the pub. Play nicely.

Fact 1 not autistic, I'm dyslexic .. captain slow... not the same thing, you wanna watch your rhetoric somewhat afore you get in too deep.

Fact 2 you stated in post #88 I have said

politicians facing prosecution for having to raise fares?

I'm asking you to quote verbatum which post i have said this.

Fact 3 as it's not possible for you to do this as you have been deleiberately overly defensive as usual. Misunderstood the point and then lept in to defend a slight which doesn't exist, you might have missed the point of the original comment which was that no polticition tells the truth ever. there's no reason to beleive that livingstone would be any more trust worthy....

however it is a matter of pulbic record that he claimed that if he got in there would be no further fair rises... moments after he was returned to London he put the fairs up.

That's renaging on an election promise, like all the other cunts. and this means he's no long credible. period.

The fact that you and the other people in TFL and the other mayor PR spin depts continue to sing his praises like some mooney cult and abuse relentlessly anyone who points out kens less than stunning record of shame farce over spend budgetary waste and self agrandiseation is a bloody shame, on all oher levels you're an intelligent bloke.

but you are likea fundamentalist xtian with your rabid unquestioning following of Ken...

now then back up you claim of the comments i have made or withdraw them.

and next time don't act like the dishonest wriggling cunt when you are cuaght out yet again making things up...

hah hah haaaaa haaaaaa hah

i think you might have things a bit back to front. Ken does what we says.

Don't forget the half-priced fares for New deal claimants (I think this should be extended to all the unemployed).

given the bloody pig's ear being made of transport in the capital, anything constructive you have to say seems drowned out in the cacophony of bollocks emanating from city hall. the bendy buses fiasco, the mass surveillance of the travelling public - revealed in the vehement opposition to young people travelling anonymously round london reported this week - not to mention the huge expense of using public transport in the city - if these are things coming from you, or people like you, then your views on transport are of dubious value.

Have you used public transport elsewhere in the country, Strangeways? London is spoiled rotten. We only look expensive compared to europe, and that will only change with an increase in governement subsidy.

I'm not sure about this one. Yes, TfL have installed hundreds of ANPR cameras in London, but so have the DfT and in the latter case they're controlled by a private company, Trafficmaster.

Also, we have numerous surveys that show that the general public are much happier having cctv in stations and on buses.

Besides, I'm not sure that Ken has any sway over the absolute surveillance of Londoners by MI5 &c. so I'm not sure how your point stands.

True. Sure a bigger subsidy would sort the increased cost but even so you can't say it's not value for money.

When we visited North Yorkshire (I know I keep banging on about this) there was one bus an hour Scarboro-Whitby and all journeys even of one stop cost £5 return!

which are annonymous though aren't they?
no they're not, not really.

the plan, according to the standard, is to make all children use their 'zip' cards to prevent anonymous travel. similarly, it isn't really anonymous when a cctv image can be associated with an oystercard. in any event people who top up their payg card with a debit card or online won't be travelling anonymously.

are oystercards one of yours?

For me to get to work MID MORNING ON A MONDAY, via public transport, I would have to leave Sunday afternoon!!

And getting home again would be a right bitch an' all
