Facts about public transport in London

Ideally yes.. Free public transport is a plus...

Then be prepared for your council tax bill to go through the roof. Walking aside, there's no such thing as free transport; only transport that is free at the point of use.

So how do you think public transport is maintained...? The engineers dance around a maypole on Midsummers Eve...?

Please come back when you've got points worth discussing.

Especially if you don't have a valid ticket ;)

You are a sensitive soul BA.
I don't mind them checking tickets. I just object to them treating it like a fucking raid on a suspected terrorist hideout :p

Why do you think the job wouldnt get done without highly payed Consultants standing around..???

Who says consultants are being paid to stand around? Please drop your imprecations unless you are able to back them up. If you are referring to Bob Kiley, he was hired to do a job in which he became unfit to work due to alcoholism. Is that TfL's fault?

The job wouldn't get done without consultancies because they have the level of expertise that is not available anywhere else. Admittedly most of them produce work that is pretty shoddy. But, due to the fact that the Tory government dismantled not only the GLC, but also closed off all funding for transport modelling there is a generation gap in the workforce. Decisions need to be made now if there is any hope of coping with the demands made of London's public transport system. We can't afford to wait until the labour force catches up with our needs.

care to elaborate? you're being very vague. What, exactly, are you saying is for sale? or are you just being argumentative because you've got a grievance against Ken Livingstone?

1.1 million for a Pissed up consultant.. Yep I'm with you city dreams. Great decisions must be made today. For the lucky London blighters of tomorrow....
I'll splash out on a new Oyster card this afternoon to help the cause.. Hooray!:)

or one you have to sit through detaining you from goign about you lawful business without good reason isn't allowed...
Hmm, interesting point on the legality. I suppose though they'd argue that you could always get off the bus (though you'd have to have your ticket checked first).

And obviously you'd have noticed that he was an alcoholic before hiring him? I think it's best you stick to riding a bike rather than getting involved in public transport.

ypu but you don't have to sit there and technically they could only ask for your ticket if they resonably suspected you of fair evasion.

In these incidents the police are there to a) prevent breech of the peace b) arrest anyone who is guilty of fiar eviasion.

they are not allowed to detain you for going about your lawful business, it's not quite soviet russia yet...

says you? or the evening standard. If you want to have a debate, post some facts please.
are you seriously saying fairs weren't cheaper 6 years ago?

that there haven't in effect been yearly rises for th last few... it's still £1 to go anywhere in london on a bus is it? still £4.50 for a 1 to 6 off peak travel card is it?

i'm not being vauge at all.

I'm, inferring that whoever get's in, they will keel over and allow the companies to increase their profits by getting larger and larger subisides bonues for 'improvements' to the service, and negotiate contracts which mean both TFL and london as a whole have even less say in how the captials for profit commercial transport (not in anyway public) system is run.

how many people have been killed by bendy buses?
Can't really be a comparison as the 14 since 1994 died coming out the back of Routemasters while in motion - obv. can't do that on a Bendy.

I thought 14 was a low number - less than one a year.

Big issue with Routemasters is it takes so long for a queue to disembark then embark, disabled people, emissions and people with pushchairs/shopping/backpacks

It's 90p on an Oyster...
that's not a fiar comparision however is it... a basic ticket is now £2 to claim fairs haven't gone up when you used to be able to get on a bus witha quid and go to the town centre or to enfield compared to havign to pay £2 is a fair increase of 100%....

Oh, and the stupidly low ceiling upstairs, the lack of seating downstairs (bus is too narrow) and the too steep stairs.

But sure, I liked hanging out the back with my arm around the pole as much as anyone.

Go back to the OP, and you'll see that 3% of journeys are paid in full; since everyone else will be using an oyster (including Freedom Pass users) it's pretty simply math...

* 2-3% now pay cash on busses

So it could be as high as 98%, so I'm being conservative.
