Facial skin reactions to products

How desperate are you for it? I might buy some of that miracle moisturiser if you want to combine postage.

I'm currently just about to buy it from the Purple Emu website

Do you want me to order you something as well then?

Jeez! Go to your GP, get a script for some zinc-erythromycin lotion, pick it up from a pharmacy for 6 quid. Start looking better in 3 days!

Yeah, that's what I'd do too. Less than half the price and no wait.

Yes, but I want to have a couple of different things to try so if it comes back in the future, I've got a choice :o:D

Also thought that if it sorts my skin out, there might be something that will sort my scalp out

re Cocois and aqueous cream

Yes, but will it get rid of the blistery spots on my scalp as well or just stop them itching?

erm, is that stuff like E45? I think I've used that with no problems. Not sure why I stopped using it though as have a very large tub at home.

Cocois should help with the spots because it softens the skin as well as moisturising. Main way of dealing with them, though, is to identify what's causing them and avoid it.

Aqueous cream is effectively a simplified version of E45. Cheaper and less likely to cause an adverse reaction. I'd seriously advise starting from that as a safe bet that pretty much can't be a problem, then over time try more complicated moisturisers.

I've had enough of trying moisturisers. It's cost me a small fortune over the years :D

I'm going to try Emu Oil

Did it work? What were you using it for?

Really well, I've had quite mild rosacea for a while but after I went on holiday last September it gor really bad. My cheeks and nose were really red and my skin was really dry - especially on my forehead where it was constantly flakey. About three weeks after starting with the purple emu cream it had cleared up :)

My nose is still a bit red and I stay away from the sun just in case but my skin is better than it's been for years. One of my friends told me the other day that it's glowing :)

For me I only use a tiny bit of the cream and only where I need it - nose, cheeks and forehead. ISTR it stung a bit at first but you only need to put a little bit on - and perservere for a couple of weeks with it, it may take a while to take effect.

I think there are different kinds of rosacea, my GP said no-one was quite sure what causes it, it's not bacterial but it responds to antibiotics  I don't find the sun makes mine worse, but it gets bad in the winter (going in and out of different temperatures) whereas my midwife who had it on her cheeks (mine's round my nose) was always very red in the summer.

I don't really have redness, I just have the blistery spots which I suppose when drying out and being aggravated by my rubbing, turn red, but I don't have spider veins or rosy cheeks or anything

I'm not like this:

I'm more like this:

I got the cream today (Emu Oil Blemish and Spot stuff - along with a free sample of the super moisturiser).

Unfortunately I also got a tube of Benadryl which I had smothered over my face last night and that seems to have reduced the flare-up and itching, so I'm not sure if the rash will be on its way out as it's drying up or whether it will be the Emu Oil doing it.

Also got the Emu Oil scalp treatment. Have just been sitting there all afternoon with oily hair and have just washed it. Scalp isn't itching but then it often doesn't straight after I've washed hair so too early to tell at the moment if it'll do any good.

Thursdays I work in an lab that makes certain brands of skincare products...I can ask them what ingredients are likely to bring people like you out in hives. :p

What products have you been using that's brought on bad reactions? They'd need this info.

Hi Mads

Was wondering if you could look tell me which of these ingredients would be worse to use (or more likely to bring up pimples on my scalp)?

Ammomium Lauryl Sulphate
Sodium Lauryl Sulphate

I know there's lots of concern about Sodium Laureth Sulphate but I can't be arsed to try and compare the above two.

Many thanks in anticipation

i remember when i was a teenager using oxy10 for spots and coming out in a massive massive rash that day :D

i just use simple nowadays.
