FA Trophy Sat 10 Dec - Dulwich Hamlet 2 -2 Royston

The tackle near the end should have been a straight red. Their captain just jogged off, and I never saw him go to see if Kargbo was OK. How he escaped any punishment beggars belief.

Tuesday will be really tough: Royston were excellent in terms of work ethic and pressing; mixed with a fair bit of nous too.

Would seem essential to start Danny Carr for the replay, he was superb when introduced. The match itself certainly lived up to my "spicy" prediction to say the least.

Moan allowed? Still don't see much in Preston Edwards? Thought he was very poor for the free kick and in no mans land for the Royston second goal.

Moans are allowed, each to their own. I think Preston is one of the best keepers in our division. And I believe he will perofrm consitently better over a season than Phil does, without Phil's 'traditional' midseason injury/loss of form'; which was exactly why we had to originally get Preston in on loan in the first place.

Watching everything he does from 100 yards away, I don't really feel confident in commenting... But generally I'd say I think that Preston is an upgrade on Phil. The number of times he's said to have been "unsighted" for goals in match reports is the only thing that raises concerns for me - seems to hint at a positional problem and/or journo code for blame...?

Preston has been a bit disappointing this season I think. When he first arrived last season he seemed very confident and positive - he was very dynamic in quickly distributing the ball and seemed vocal with the defence. This season he's looked like a different person to me - he's incredibly hesitant in dealing with any sort of pass back and he often plays his own defence into trouble by giving it to defenders who are under pressure. Royston spotted that and started chasing us down every time the ball went back to him - fortunately, not too many teams in our own division seem to have done that to us this season. Not sure what's happened but as things stand I'm not convinced by him as a long-term option.

I don't know where you stand but he is definitely vocal. Can't say I'd noted hesitancy on backpasses other than that he is looking to play a short pass to the defence. If you listen to the coaches on the sidelines that is how they want to play. By its very nature it is a risky strategy and will involve the defenders having to play out under pressure. Royston tried to shut down from the front to prevent us transferring the ball through midfield and to the overlapping full backs and on the few occasions we managed to play through their press we got Green & Ming free in space and created scoring chances as we outnumbered them.

Only Maidstone conceded fewer goals than us in both 2012-13 and 2014-15. We had Phil between the sticks in both of those seasons and 14-15 was Pinnock's first ever season as a centre back.
On the Phil question we will not agree I suppose but his form when he got dropped was terrible (VCD Away, Lewes Away etc.) and in terms of Preston letting in a free kick well people do have short memories as I believe that was one of Phil's main weaknesses - VCD Away, Canvey Away to name but 2 that were scored from around 30 yards.
Players get older, their form drops that's life. Which of the players released by Gavin are starting regularly for teams above Dulwich?

At VCD the defence around him were atrocious as well to be fair.
