FA Cup Quarter Final's draw.

Are you insisting that they were forced to go?

Well not forced but I'd imagine the FA and the Government could be pretty persuasive one way or the other, no?

All in all it was a farce but I'm glad Man Utd just dropped out completely than carrying on the farce of putting out a complete reserve team.

i dunno - arsenal do ok in the league cup every year with a second string side

The league cup has always been a mickey mouse cup, I'd not want United to approach the FA Cup the same way all teams approach the league cup, though it seems that it's the midtable gimps in the EPL that are taking that approach to the FA Cup, which is very sad.

it has become a mickey mouse cup for the big 4, but only because they started sending out second string sides, if they all treating it more seriously - it wouldn't be regarded as a mickey mouse cup, that said, man u were pleased to win it in an other wise trophyless year a few years ago, and chelsea are probably going to win it this year

nah it's always been a mickey mouse cup. The year United won it was kinda funny cos on one hand it's nice to win something on the other hand winning just the league cup only serves to highlight the absence of a proper trophy.

You mean the FA and the government asked Man U not to partcipate in the FA Cup? Why?
So they could play in a FIFA backed World Club Championship in Brazil, the FA and Government thought it would significantly improve England's world cup bid whilst snubbing it would have really really fucked off FIFA.

Yeah I remember those New Labour clowns getting involved in it somewhere along the line.

Bastards. I'd assumed it was Man U's unilateral decision. Still, they could have said no to such an obviously stupid idea.

It was ultimately United's decision and they made a pot of money out if it. Shameful stuff.

I'd find it hard to believe they made anymore money out of it than they'd have made from a half decent cup run.

But please feel free to surprise me with whatever figures you have at hand.

Much as I don't want to stick up for ManUre, I think revol has a point and it wasn't a simple scenario. The FIFA bigwigs at the time had thought they had concocted a big new MONEY-SPINNING tournament and there would have been enormous pressure on EUFA and the FA to ensure their representives were there with a full squad.
The World Club Championships have now been shrunk down to a much smaller affair as the idea was a pile of poop anyway.

Anyway I suppouse we are left only to imagine what Cardiff City would do if put under pressure by the FA and Government to represent England in the World Club Championship's.

They'd tell them to fuck off, or watch Ninian Park torched by the outraged Soul Crew.

Why would Cardiff be called upon to represent England, Einstein?

We'd refuse to play in a competition with such bad English grammar for a start!

Isnt it scary how similar this all is to the 39th game business??? The fa cup willg et damaged further if the 39th game happens. And utd will be the first to go 'waaaaa, too many games we want out of the cup cos you made us play 39 games, waaaaa'

Actually you moronic prick who bets on his own team being relegated, Fergie's reaction to the proposals were decidely cold, infact anyone with wit grasped it as a coded message of disapproval, as explicit as any employee could be.

I see you take the Editors claim that United made a shit load of money out of it at face value, despite the fact he's provided no figures that show it provided more revenue than a half decent cup run (gate receipts, television money etc). Still why would you have a problem with United going to a competition in Brazil for some money when you'll happily make money off your team being relegated.

Lol, like im gonna listen to what a biased man utd fan thinks. Face up to it when your team acts wrongly, otherwise you look stupid.

except I've said it was a poor decision but it wasn't made simply by United to make loads of money, it was made under pressure from the FA and Government who were trying to shore up England's world cup bid.

Like I said if the Editor can find us some figures that shows United made more money from the Brazilian farce than they would have from a cup run, I'll entertain the idea it was done for money.

And here's an example of retarded decisions being made for money, the testimonial game in Saudi Arabia, that was a fucking joke.

You're still blaming other things other than your club, though so thats not fully accepting it. Oh poor man utd, they were made to play extra games so they get more money than the rest, poor cunts indeed.

Are you fucking stupid? Do you actually know anything about the events under discussion?

United actually played less games than they probably would have in the FA Cup. I see no evidence that the competition in Brazil brought in more cash than an FA Cup run. And of course United can't be held entirely responsible for it, the FA and Government can be very persausive especially when the FA are under pressure from UEFA who are being pushed by FIFA. But regardless of that I said it was a mistake to go to Brazil.

BTW you were tolerable when you were hanging off my coat tails laughing at iRobot but you're increasingly superflous to requirements now and only showing yourself up as a clueless twat.

As for your comment about the 39th game, Fergie gave it a very cold reception, colder than anyother premiership manager. Like I said it was obvious to anyone he was giving it a barely coded thumbs down.
