FA Cup draw

Yeah, I was thinking the Essex Derby aspect will be a big incentive for Southend to do better next Tuesday ... :(
tbh I doubt that getting to play Dagenham, a team Southend have no historical rivalry with, will be any bigger an incentive than the prize money and a decent shot at the fourth round (cos let's face it, Southend should beat D&R if they get through).

I mean, we don't get all excited about the prospect of playing Forest Green Rovers or Gloucester City (or Cheltenham & Yeovil for that matter...)

Fair points! :o

Fulham have given us 7000 tickets for the game at Craven Cottage - that's almost a third of their capacity

so, any of you London lot fancy a day out by the river with me? Getting tickets won't be a problem - £15 adults, £10 for 17-20year olds

Leaving for sunny Wales in the next hour - I expect a £1 for every reference to 'plucky' and 'underdogs' in the Sky broadcast tonight.

Looks as if we might take several hundred . . . totally surreal experience at this point . . .

Swansea were 2-1 down against Horsham (at least 3 divs below them) at home, and then got angry. 3 goals in 5 minutes towards the end of the first half, and eventually 6-2 to the Jacks.

They are rewarded next round with the immensely difficult challenge of Havant and Waterlooville :D

I will be subjecting myself to the Southend v Oxford replay tomorrow night (Tuesday 11th) at Southend. Us being well tonked is entirely on the cards, but I'm feeling brave (and stupid) and it could be the only midweek Oxford game of the season for me, and an evening out innit. Wish us Mighty Conference Minnows luck please!

2-1 up until the 38th minute . . . it's something to tell the grandchildren about* Thought we stuck to our principles and played good, passing football right to the end. Everyone at Swansea - fans, police, stewards, turnstile people, etc - were very welcoming and pleased to chat . . . lovely evening.

So it's over, finally. It's all going to take some digesting that's for sure.

No surrender to the low fat spread.

*metaphorically speaking.

It's like some bizarre parallel universe as yet undiscovered by anybody else from this dimension...

Hope your trip back through the wormhole was safe Mr Calling :)

The funny thing was the Swansea Walkabout bar couldn't put on the Sky pre-match coverage of a Swansea home game - the manager said because they have a restriction on their license that prevents them showing any football ever.

Despite all the hand shakes and best wishes from the home fans after - and the clapping of our coaches as we left - I kind of got the hint last night wasn't quite a normal night in Swansea . . .

Chasetown here we come! They must have loved pulling us out of the hat! Cracking winner they scored after PV missed 2 pennos, guarantee they'll do us ;)

Oxford made our own luck and we lost 3-0.

Having two penalties awarded against us in three minutes towards the end of the first half maybe a tad harsh (our star keeper Billy Turley saved one, but they scored the other). Overall though, Southend while not all that, were fitter and faster and better at passing than Oxford. The home team made mistakes, missed sitters, got phased by the odd smart attack from us (then our woeful and consistent inability to finish meant we remained goalless) But I can't really complain that our defeat was underserved. Not having time for a pint at any stage was a pisser though

Concentrating on retaining midtable mediocrity in the Conference now ... :p :(

We've sold 2,000 already and they haven't gone on general sale yet

Looks like it's gonna be one of those days :D
