F1 2010

Pastor may bring money but I don't think he's any better than The Hulk. Hopefully Nico can find a seat...maybe at Renault if Petrov gets taken to Virgin as part of their new Russian sponsor deal.

Really enjoyed the season, think I only fell asleep for 3 or 4 of the races.
Didn't really care who won in the end.

So I heard in the commentary that KERS is making a comeback next year? good idea or waste of time.

I did hear that little fella Davison on the practice about "push to pass" that they apparently have in a series over in the states that works well.
You have a boost button that you can use a limited number of times.
Sound better than kers or not?

It creates fake racing to some extent...but KERS as a technology is very good and can be used on road cars. Williams are developing a KERS system for Porsche's road division, for example.

The adjustable rear wing is a crap idea though.

I am not bothered by KERS as long as there is as level a playing field as possible.

Why was KERS introduced?

The aims are twofold. Firstly to promote the development of environmentally friendly and road car-relevant technologies in Formula One racing; and secondly to aid overtaking. A chasing driver can use his boost button to help him pass the car in front, while the leading driver can use his boost button to escape. In line with the regulations, there are limits on the device’s use and therefore tactics - when and where to use the KERS energy - come into play.

KERS is good because it reflects road car trends ie hybrids, but they need to make sure it actually offers a real performance advantage this time. The limits on power and energy last time around were too low so it was barely worth the cost in off center weight.

Yeah but the teams will have been playing with KERS for a while now, no doubt they will have advanced it

FERRARI driver Fernando Alonso has admitted he is only aiming for second in Abu Dhabi on Sunday afternoon, which would land him a third Formula One driver's world championship.
"Hundred per cent. I just need to finish second," Alonso said.

"It doesn't matter who wins in Abu Dhabi if I finish second. So the main goal for us is to be on pole on Saturday and to win the race on Sunday.

"If we cannot do that, because we are not quick enough, we try to be second. With that, the problem is finished."

Alonso won the first race of the season in Bahrain and has claimed he would be champion since the middle of the year.

This makes me happy.

Anyone seen this?

A watch advert showing Bernie Ecclestone's battered face after he was mugged could seem "insensitive", Victim Support has said.

The F1 boss was beaten by robbers who took his Hublot watch in Knightsbridge, central London, last month.

A Hublot spokeswoman said the 80-year-old sent the picture to their chief executive. They saw the "humour" and decided to use it for an advertisement.

Victim Support said the company seemed to be "making light of crime".

A spokesperson for the charity said: "Everyone reacts differently to crime.

"Although it appears Bernie Ecclestone can make light of the incident and get on with his life, for many victims of mugging the impact can be devastating, leaving them fearful to leave the house and unable to move on.

"Hublot is a luxury brand which seems to be making light of crime in order to sell a product, and this advert could be seen as insensitive to victims who are not in a similar position to Bernie."
'Sense of humour'

Mr Ecclestone was repeatedly punched and kicked in the attack on 25 November as he arrived outside his central London office with his girlfriend.

Jewellery worth £200,000, including the £11,000 watch was taken stolen. No-one has yet been arrested.

The day after the mugging he sent his picture with a note saying "See what people will do for a Hublot" to Jean-Claude Biver.

The spokeswoman for Hublot said the men share "a certain sense of humour" and agreed to use the image and the note for a one-off advert.

Mr Biver said: "He told us, 'Please use it to make an advertising campaign because I want to show that I'm courageous.'

"It is also a protestation against violence that we are all afraid of today."

A spokesman for the Advertising Standards Authority said: "The use of pictures of victims of violent crime in advertisements is not prohibited under the advertising rules, but advertisers must prepare their ads in a responsible way and take particular care to avoid causing serious or widespread offence."

Just announced:
Change of rules, so from next season team orders will be permitted.
That means that teams will be able to tell drivers to let their team mate pass.
It is sensible, but a bit of a shame.

I'll be glad to see the back of team orders. The rule was unenforceable and simply led to endless speculation and innuendo. F1 worked perfectly well for years with team orders, until the Americans started moaning, and they don't have a GP any longer so that's academic. KERS is a no-brainer, it's probably the future, and in fact present of road cars so clearly belongs in F1.

The other big rule change, rear wings that can be moved when one second from the car in front, is ridiculous. It's the sort of silly gimmick that belongs in NASCAR. The 2013 engine regs, of 1.6 turbo engines could be interesting, but the 12k rpm limit and presumably a boost limit will mean it probably isn't.

Yeah. FUCK OFF :D

Unfortunately nothing yet, I wonder what his contract is?

Okie dokie.

Twitter - F1Lite - says, as of 9.35pm today:

"Rumours within the BBC speculate that Jonathan Legard will be replaced by David Coulthard in the commentary box for 2011."

This is progress.

:)

Ordinarily I'd agree, but I have my doubts about DC.

Hmm, Coulthard and Brundle. I like them both and they obviously are very knowledgeable. But you need someone who gets a bit over excited as well. Otherwise it might be a bit of a dry pairing.

Has there been a 2011 thread started yet BTW?

Now we're all getting picky.

I'd say dead air would be an improvement on Legard.

:)

ETA: twitter rumours are even crapper than regular ones.

No 2011 thread yet, AFAIK.
