Explosions on Underground:Suspects/stories/theories/anything not news thread

A hoax wouldn't be this well planned surely -- simultaneous hoax bangs in 3-4 parts requires quite a bit of planning.
Well I'm sure me and my mates could rig the same stunt (not that we would I should stress!) - it's not that difficult to rig firework-strength explosive blasts at roughly the same time.

It's looking more and more like a sick hoax as time goes by.

Still sounds like a home made bomb cock up to me.
The eye witness report on Robert Elms says the guy with the backpacker flew out of his seat when it went off and seemed utterly surprised.

She reported foam coming out of the bag and wires hanging out of the bag.

The caller said that her daughter went over to see if he was OK before the penny dropped and then people stampeded out of the carriage. She suggested that he might have been badly burnt.

What a shame that would be, eh?

might be a good time to ak him for some serious info while he is lying on the hospital bed ..before treatment of course.

It was clearly a co-ordinated attack which, if bombs had gone off for real, was designed to cause maximum disruption. Everything adds up .... they hit the Central, Victoria and Northern lines .... all the major deep tunnel lines apart from the Piccadilly which is already virtually out of action. They also hit a bus to try to put the bus network out of action and paralyse everything.

We'll have to wait to see whether they deliberately exploded only detonators (which would make no sense .... why would you want your footsoldiers captured? .... unless it was chemical or biological and we're only going to find out in the forthcoming hours    ) or whether we were just very lucky and the bomb-maker was incompetent.

Either way, hopefully they'll catch everyone involved and we'll get some useful information from them about their leaders. They are the pondlife we REALLY want.

I don't understand why they did this at lunchtime, though .... why not the rush hour?

I am entertaining glorious thoughts of horrible burns to the groin area, possibly needing a series of very painful operations to restore what might have been blown away.

This is very bad and gets us nowhere and I will stop now.

It's an uncomfortable feeling isn't it? And I don't mean that it makes one's own groin tingle. :D

What I mean is that I have been filled with the same impotent rage that I felt on July 7th .... I even caught myself a moment ago thinking that maybe we should torture the names of the ringleaders out of the people that the old bill have presumably nabbed.

I don't like thinking that way. :o  :(

If sure seems odd to let off hoax bombs while you're still wearing them...
I'd imagine the people behind this weren't exactly balanced mentally. It's also worth noting that they copied the attacks of 7/7 ... three blasts on the tube, one on a bus. Not coincidence I'm sure.

If that were the case I wouldn't have thought the bombers would want the rucksacks to be strapped to themselves.

Look I don't mean to be nasty or mean to anyone genuinely freaked out, but FFS peeps THINK about stuff before idly speculating on something.

On the main thread there's been stuff about Oval 'because of the cricket' (at Lords and the England team have MULLERED the Aussies :D)

Calm down and think rationally about about why a certain procedure will be in place. Maybe even make the assumption that action 'on the ground' near something like this is going to stress caution and doesn't necessarily mean anything big/bad is happening.

My tuppence on this...it was an attempt that went wrong because the bombs weren't made properly. Whether it's linked to 7/7 or not is currently a moot point - my surmise would be that it was another attempt at a serious attack on the tube that didn't work.

i think reason why not rush hour is because of form not function: less actual disruption but more fear because could happen anytime for tube travellers

A friend of mine who works on tube was told by a copper that there 10,000 additional police stationed in London - he himself was living in a £160 a night hotel. Please, don't quote me on that though.

I have two theories: Either they are just really small bombs planted by terrorists or it's some extreme right wing nutters with small homemade explosives trying to stir up shite.

Third time now: (but twice in different thread)

The rememberance service was going on at the same time, that might just be why it happened then, it's a standard terrorist technique after all.

Amateur bandwagon jumping is my guess. Wanted to make a point, but not committed enough to want to kill people.

Could turn out to be a totally earnest bunch of chaps who just want the UK out of Iraq. Suspect they will all be caught.

WTF are you bangin' on about?

If you wanted to create chaos on the underground system all you would have to do is leave unattended bags all over the place.

No need for detonators.

No need for fireworks.

There are only so many bomb disposal units to go round and with half a dozen unattended bags spread around the capital you could bring the network to a halt for hours.

I favor the failed to explode properly theory.

Ummm...the Tube is pretty busy at midday - you've got more tourists out than at 9am AND loads of people are going on lunch at that time. Not AS packed as rush hour, but still v. busy

According to people at work, who have been watching the news it was a bunch of white 18 yr olds!

I haven't seen the news personally so can't corroborate or anything. Although it does remind me of the soho nail bomber trying to stir up racial hatred with his bombs in Brick Lane and Brixton.

White supremacists capitalising on the Muslim Fundies?

This is the thread for conspiracy theories

One theory could be that this is some sort of MI5/police sting operation to identify suicide bombers. Maybe they had an undercover operative sell some fake bombs to someone who had contacts to unknown people who were prepared to become suicide bombers.

Had to laugh at conversation I just heard in the gym changing room

'Apparently there was a bomb on a bus too...' etc
*sigh* 'Oh, it's just annoying'

Yup, Londoners... nothing more annoying than messed up transport, eh? :D

I think I saw one report saying that the "bomber" had left the bag on a carriage then got off. Maybe this is what all of the "bombers" intended - hence the 'surprise' of one of them when his package went off prematurely? If these people were doing a copy-cat attack maybe all they had was small detonating caps (and 'fake' bombs) but no access to or expertise with proper explosives? This would suggest that they were aiming at causing alarm and panic, and probably intending on getting away.

tbh its been going on for the past two weeks.

at first for a suspect package we sent one officer and two ambulances - then we didnt have enough for every one, so we dropped it to one amb and an officer, then one officer. we have had tens of suspect packages day and night for the past few weeks.

Conspiracy theorys yes, deeply flawed ones no. As soon as you've sold the bomb you could arrest them, or just get them as they leave the house.
